Any news on how would the FAA's capping/slotting/downsizing in JFK affect Delta's planned expansion there?

How was it done in ORD and who suffered the most?

they will have mainline slots and regional slots. the tricky part will be to decide what TOW is considered mainline and what is regional. also, the amount of regional slots will be very small.

Thanks snowbum

So would Delta be able to get slots for the 14 new destinations planned for 2008?

Would widebody international growth be looked favorably upon?

After all JFK is an International airport, so I would hope that an International operation would get priority over a domestic operation.

Also landing fees are usually derived by weight, so wide bodies might win out over RJ's.

Delta wins by a field goal, but JetBlue covers the spread

Just about every airport is an international airport. The FAA won't care one bit. Bigger planes will win out over smaller planes during peak hours, and most of Delta's biggest planes fly international out of JFK by default, but there won't be any extreme preference given to a particular slot because of what country its going to land in.

If anything, domestic should have a higher priority for evening departures. If you're flying 14 hours to the other side of the globe it doesn't matter one hill of beans what time you leave or if you're a couple hours late.

My magic 8 ball says Delta will be forced to cut more flights than it wants, but it will still come out ahead of JetBlue by a slim margin. Delta is a far more skilled airline at negotiating these kinds of things. Just look at their "first offer" 2008 "reduction" proposal: 11 more flights next year than this year's peak and an additional international departure bank, right smack dab in the middle of the big one! And the press and public buys it. Meanwhile JetBlue can only defer growth, sell planes and pull down routes in response. Advantage: Delta.

Kinda like flying 6 hours to Long Beach...you gain 3 hours anyway so who cares if you're 2 hours late.

We have already announced a third bank of flights, moving some of our "shorter" European flights( dublin, Shannon, Edinburough, etc) later (maybe 9pm departures instead of 7pm). But, we will still add flights during that original busy bank at 6pm-7pm because that is when most of our connections come in from the rest of the US. This isn't going to ONLY affect Delta, nope. There maybe some restrictions on RJs, but also E190s. You can't just penalize one carrier. Sorry, it will be spread out among a lot of carriers. Hey, we already got rid of our Dash-8s, that is a big improvement already. But to answer your question again, we are adding a third bank of departures to help mix it up a bit.

Thanks for the play by play. You may be right, but Delta will be adding more CR9s to replace 50 seaters and those Dash-8s that are now gone. But, the third bank you were talking about is a later bank, probably 9pm or so. Those flights will go to places like Dublin, Shannon, etc supposedly. I think Delta will lose some 50 seaters in the process, but some flights to larger cities will remain with CR9s, and they will be spread out more. Both of our airlines lose when there are long delays, and anything will probably help.
