I am a college senior who will be done this spring. I have about 900 with 100 multi and still building. My question is when should I apply to have the best chances of getting an iterview as close to my graduation date as possible? If I apply too early and (cross my fingers) they offer me a job would they hold the class date a few weeks for me to finish school? Just wanted to know. Also I have a buddy who will walk my stuff in. Don't know if that makes any difference. Thanks I hope to be on soon!
 
Its kind of a crap shoot as far as I know as to when you'd get a call after applying...best would be someone who has/is applying to track their timeline.

You certainly would get a call based on your time, couldnt hurt to get a little more multi and be sure to keep flying once you apply and/or get a call. They're kind of picky about "recent" flight time.


Maybe apply just before graduation, keep flying, and take some time off to enjoy life a little bit before you start "living the dream".

If you have a really good reason (college, military, etc) you can specify your availability at a later date. That gets you in the "pile" sooner, just remind them a month or two before you graduate.
 
I would submit 2 months prior to graduation. I had the same issue you did. i ended up applying early and doing my last semester online while i was in training here. Really was tough but got it done. If i would have waited i would be alot more junior. Seniority means everything!! Good luck

So do I tell them this on an application or during the interview?

Wish I could do this but I think you need to finish the last semester on campus plus the only classes I need here at UofI are not offered online

so does anyone know how I can let them know I would not be available till a certain date? Should I do that on an application or on my resume or is that just a waste of time? Would it be worth emailing someone in the HR dept? Thanks

I tend to agree with this. It will help you go into the interview with a clear head. Besides you're young and have the rest of your life to work, enjoy the last few weeks of college and any time afterwards should be used for R&R (read beer drinking). As for your friend walking your stuff in, the answer is yes it does help. If any XJT guys have listened to Semak's (VP of Flt Ops) voicemail, he mentions the process for recomending a friend for a position. The voicemail also mentions the hiring/upgrade/attrition to CAL forecast for 2007. It seems the resume stack is thinning a bit. Good luck, with a rec, your times should be fine as long as you stay current.

I would either email HR or have your friend mention it in the recommendation letter to George Semak. If it were me I might even do both. You could even have your friend email George Semak who is really good about replying quickly. Just express your interest in working here and phrase the question in a way that asks them what they would prefer. Honesty is everything at this company...sounds cheesy but it is defintely true.

Like I said, have your contact at XJT who is going to walk your stuff in email George Semak with this question.
 
Like was already said, about 8 to 10 weeks from application to email for interview. I think they mostly interview for classes about 2 weeks after you interview. DO NOT APPLY AND INTERVIEW IF YOU ARE NOT READY IN THAT TIME FRAME and here is why, one guy I interviewed with was offered the job and the class date and he asked if he could delay till the next class, when asked why he said something about having to house sit for his parents or some other b.s., they said thanks here's your ticket home and basically withdrew the job offer. After you apply online, then have your friend thats already here email Semak with your resume and his letter of rec. for you. Semak then emails HR with your name and supposedly you are put in a special pile. So you need to make sure your name is in the HR system otherwise nothing will happen from it. Life is good here no matter what any of the naysayers have to say.
 
Alright I guess I shall wait... I just thought maybe there would be some way to get into that huge pile a bit early. All is well my time is close enough. Thanks.
 
I miss the many friends that I made instructing....many of them I still talk to on a regular basis. At a large airline you make friends for 4 days then you probably won't see them again for a year (if at all).

I don't really miss sitting in 172's in 100 degree heat though.
 
Yeah i'm sure you guys are right but i'm sure you can also remember the when can I start feeling. Its been good times and I expect many more to come!
