I heard the most senior furloughee has been with the company like 18 years or so... I'm curious what seat were they in and what were they flying just before 9/11.
 
Some were Metro Jet Capts (737). I know a guy who is now pretty close to the bottom w/in 100 numbers and was an Airbus Capt.
 
It's almost as bad for the TWA guys. The most junior furloughee has 15 years with the company (aa/TWA).

I'm retired USAirways and the most senior furloughed pilot was hired Jun 88. That should be accurate to 1 month.
 
The most junior guy at US was hired 7-18-88. Just over 15 years ago.
 
Just a **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** shame. Listened to Seagulls weekly message today, he sounds very "down in the dumps" . This fall will be very interesting here at Airways and the W/O'ed.

Questions that will have to be answered....

1. Will MidAtlantic ever get it's wings?
2. Is midway going away?
3. Will Mesa and the contractors take more of YOUR (MAINLINE) flying?
4. Will Airways stock tank when it hits the market?

We'll see...... And the beat goes on.
 
Well I have identified one way that the airways employees can make their concessions back. Short the heck out of the stock when it hits the market. I think it is supposed to open at around $24 dollars a share.
 
more like $8. It'll be interesting to see what RSA and management do with their stock.

It seems like US Airways example is something we should all be learning from in terms of retirement and job security.

1988 DOH being furloughed having been a captain at a major U.S. airline is a big wake-up call to all of us. I really feel for the guys who've lost their retirement. It has been a big wakeup call for me. At Aloha, we have an A-plan retirement with 1.8% multiplier. We have a B-plan with 7% company contribution, and 401(k). Even though our retirement is funded up to date, I'm not planning on collecting ANY of it having seen how US Air guys got hosed. One just never knows... It will be a great 7 digit surprise at the end of the road if it's still there, but I'm doing my own investments for retirement and plan on not having an airline retirement.

As for TWA/AA deal... it is criminal what was done to TWA, but that's another can of worms.
 
I was at U for 14 years, but I don't believe I'll get a call back before 2007 earliest, if at all.. Wouldn't suprise me if U becomes MDA as the old guys retire.

Granted, is is another can of worms but, as you said, it is a big wake up call.

The most senior TWA furloughee has a DOH of January 1989.
Very similar in that aspect.Unfortunatley, it's going to go deaper than that.

After 14 long years at USAirways, I think this is the most accurate metaphor I've heard.....
