I was reading on another board about the possibility of a SkyWest Atlanta base and was wondering if there was any meat to this rumor. I've been watching ASA seem to start into a slow death spiral simply by being left under the control of it's absolutely HORRIBLE management. If this rumor is true, it's just one more unmistakable sign that it's time to bail from this ship and start over before I waste any more of my life working for a management that promotes incompetence and encourages piss poor performance.

ASA is already feeling the pain of a lack of crews caused by a total disrespect and disregard for it's employees and if this rumor is true then I'll add one more resignation letter to the stack from folks who would rather start at the bottom of a better company's seniority list than stay and help keep this turd of a company afloat. It would feel great to help scheduling learn the true meaning of "Low Coverage." :angryfire

So now that I've gotten the typical "ASA blows" rant out of the way, has anyone heard if there is anything to this rumor?

I don't think they'll open an ATL base until after ASA's contract is dealt with. They may not open one there at all, who knows

It would not make sense...why pay overhead for both ASA and SKW in ATL (no, they are not going to shut down ASA).

I don't see it happening but you never know... Look at MKE, Never thought that would happen either. Most of the ATL trips are 4 day trips that start in SLC. they run allot smoother then the ORD trips!!

MKE CA is at 18 months, If ATL ever happened it would go really JR.!!!

For the exact same reason they spent over a million to transfer ASA's airplanes to SkyWest. Source - SkyWest's investor's conference call.

I agree ASA will not be shut down, but it is not likely to grow either. SkyWest is not really interested in forcing Delta to abide by the part of the agreement having to do with percentages of DCI flying out of ATL. As long as Delta is happy, SkyWest is happy. If Delta wanted to hit ASA pilots in the head, SkyWest would provide bats.

No there can't be ANY truth to this rumor because ASA pilots are represented by the Air Line Pilots Association and they would NEVER allow that to happen.... Herndon is on the case.....

Have you no faith???

Have you ever volunteered? My bet is NO!! Just another lazy Ass pointing fingers and not wanting to do anything to help! Tell you what....do us all a favor and QUIT! Go to Skywst....see what could possibly be on the horizon! Another "ILL" informed idiot!

I'm serious Tomct. There is NO way that Skywest will open an ATL base and take over our flying because we have UNION representation. Isn't that why we want the Skywest pilots to join ALPA so that they have the same protection? ALPA will protect us, just you watch...... We are going to "take it back"..... that's what ALPA says....

Ahhh NO! If Skywst votes in ALPA, it would be to their credit! The Union is only as good as the membership makes it. The ONLY reason that the majors have such good contracts is that they STAND STRONG and take their Local Unions to the next level. THAT is what the Regional guys NEED to understand. Unfortunately there is still FAR to much SJS still going on. People are being to "Short-sighted" and NOT looking long term. We need to treat these things like we are going to spend the rest of our careers here "Heaven Help Us" but that way we don't leave anyone behind. All of these guys that think...."oh, I just need a thousand hours and I'm gone...":rolleyes:look at all of the guys with THOUSANDS of hours PIC. They are going NOWHERE!!! Better start looking long term, we could possibly be here awhile.

So you're saying that ALPA can't stop Skywest from taking our flying? I don't understand, I thought that 2% of my pay was to protect my job? Why can't ALPA protect our jobs?

100 pilots "volunteering" wont make a difference. I don't understand what "manning" the strike center will do to help our cause if we aren't allowed to strike anyway.

whether or not he has volunteered has nothing to do with alpa stopping the slide of this industry.
