I know that Indy Air pilots scattered to other regionals, fractionals, corporate, cargo and LCCs when Independence Air met its untimely demise. I had many friends at Indy and they really enjoyed their time there (until the bitter end). For those pilots who remained in aviation (I am sure a few exited permanently), how would you compare your new position (fractional, corporate, LCC, etc.) to your former Indy position and what do you like/dislike about it relative to Indy?

I am posting this on a few boards in case ex-Indy pilots don't view this board.

Was at Indy, now at NJs.

I miss the Airbus.
I miss the pay.
I miss the travel benefits.
I miss the crew room.
I miss the people.

I like the new job.
I like the C-X.
I like having every other week off.
I like the variety of flying that NJs offers.

My only complaint is that I didnt come to NJs years ago. Now on this side of the airport, it makes my stomach turn to go fly in the airliners. Big crowds, rude employees. Not going back. I have talked to guys that went to other regionals and are trying to get on here, and I talked to 1 that came to NJs and is trying to leave, he still wants to be an airline pilot.

Great response. That's the sort of answer I am looking for. Sometimes you can't appreciate a job until you try something different and get another perspective. Any others out there?

Looking forward to a new chapter...

I agree 100% with skiandsurf! I loved IDE and had a wonderful time there until the end but, I am starting with NJ Sept 25th and looking forward to the new career..:) I have had enough of the crowded airports and the bad way the airlines treat the hard working employees from Ticket Counter Agents to Pilots. I have many friends still working at the airlines and they seem to like the life style regardless of the conditions, I respect that. As for all the great friends and memories made at IDE...the best! What a great family! I hope that NJ will be a great new experience! I will be based in LAX and flying the C-X. At least I can say I flew the A-319 and am thankful for that incredible opportunity. Not many regional pilots start out in a J-3200 and end up in an A-319! Anyone in Tucson..look me up!

I miss the people the most. I made alot of great friends there which made it a joy to go to work. From the Rampers all the way up to Managers we had a close family. I miss the J41 and all the fun crews! I am not upset we went out on our own and can proudly say I was part of history for a short while.
I am now at FlexJet and love the job. I am flying the LR60 getting to go from BFE to exotic places. Pay is good and they treat us very well. I have more days off then before and get food while working.
So I miss my FlyI family but have been welcomed with open arms into my new family at FlexJet.

I think this is a good topic. It is nice to see that some FLYI people have found good opportunities after that unfortunate debacle. Not surprising to see that some people do not miss the airlines.

I came to Flexjet. It was a raise for me after being an RJ FO for 5 1/2 years, so I can't say I miss the pay.

I'm working 14 days per 28 day bid period, so time off is decent.

I do like the minimum rest of 10 hours versus 8, and that we fly to more interesting places.

I'd say the major differences are not knowing where you are going the next day, which means that, here at flex anyway, you never really know what time you need to get to sleep. The phone could ring anytime after your rest period ends so you always need to be rested and ready. And...I really really miss having a cockpit door. Makes for very, very, very boring legs sometimes.

Flying on the airlines as a revenue pax is kinda odd sometimes, but nice. Makes me realize what a better product we had at indy though... I like the miles and hotel points. After 6 months I had enough for a ticket and 2 hotel nights.

So if you get off at 4pm and your briefed to show the next day at 8am, your in rest and uncontactable until that time. Or does it mean that the company can call you any time after 10 hours of rest, in this case 2am?

they can call you during your last two hours of your rest period (which is 10 hours) and have you show earlier than you thought. So even if you thought you were sleeping in the next morning, the phone can ring 8 hours after you went on rest. I think this is different than the NetJets rule right?
