My airline just sent something out notifying us that we don't need to look at the tire pressure gauges on the B757/B767 fleet on preflight, and that the visual gauges are being removed in the future. Maintenance will be responsible for that from now on, but no information was given as to how often they will be checked.

Question for you Bubbas' flying the 75'/76' at your airline:

Do you have the visual gauges, and is it still on your preflight checks, and any info how often MX checks them too?

Thanks

No gauges at Delta. Since it is not a pilot responsibility, I don't have the slightest idea how often they're checked. If it looks flat, I write it up.

Now if they could only train the FA's to monitor the potable water gauge.:(

Thanks guys. I guess I figured out why we're going to do it. apparently it's an 'industry standard'. I don't feel right mentioning the name of my airline, but in general terms, it's a bankrupt operator of B757/B767s located in a large south central state.

goggles,

My concern is that with over 6000 hours on type, most doing preflights, I've found underinflated tires many times by looking at the gauge and never saw one that appeared underinflated.

My guess is the numbers of DFW/ATL/MIA/JFK/LAX long runway landings statiscally override the few TGU/UIO max braking stops. Hopefully we won't have a B757 needing max brakes with 3-4 underinflated main tires in those places.
