Noty trying to flamebait?
What is industry standard?

First of all I am not trying to flamebait anyone. If you care to answer my question and PM it to me that is fine as well.
I commute over 3 time zones (yes that sucks) and have the opportunity to talk to many pilots from different airlines (LCC, cargo, legacy, regional). This is one of the few good aspects of my commute. However I have run into pilots from Mesa and CHQ and am a little troubled on some comments made by them. Their comments generally state that they have no problem flying for an airline which compensates their employees below industry standard. One CHQ pilot seemed please that they were going to acquire Express Jet's flying.
My question is:
Does your respective pilot group plan on improving their contracts when they open for negotiations or will plan on accepting a similar contract you have now??

Sir, where are you getting this info that chq is getting paid below industry standard, this is completely inaccurate. If you have been on flight info before this has been discussed numerous times and is a closed issue. Chq pilots are paid the industry average, just look at the pay rates.... I don't know where people get this from. Furthermore we have a half way decent contract, don't get me wrong its not the best but its just as good as most other reputable regionals. There are some things we are trying to improve in our contract as it is coming up for negotiation. I think you get confused between pilot compensation and what chq charges mainline carriers for block hours. You have to remember there is not a direct relationship between pilot compensation and what a regional charges for their product/service. There are several other factors that determine that such as the corporate structure, cost control, etc that have nothing to do with the contract or compensation.

UCF: Thank you for clearing that up. I was told by a CHQ pilot that their pay rates are below other in the industry flying similar equipment. I suppose the indusrty is dog-eat-dog these days. None of our jobs are safe because there will always be companies looking to wrestle flying away from one another. That is not an attractive scenario for anyone and probably a negotiating tool that is used by airlines at all levels.
I guess the comment that was made to me more than once that troubled me the most was some regional pilots talking about going after other regional's flying. The most common targets seemed to be American Eagle's and Express Jet's flying. I guess I am too naive. I shake my head in disbelief and wonder what our industry is coming to with attitudes like that.
The pilots making these comments to me were CHQ and Mesa.
Oh well, I did not mean to offend and UFC thanks again for clearing up part of my question and educating me. Good luck to all of us.

Pilots don't go after anyones flying. Management does.

Right and pilot groups just accept subpar wages to make the company competitive enough to make it possible.
