Is it true that you have no work rules? I've been told with the new JCBA that if your workrules were improved manpower needs would be anywhere in the 500-1000 pilot range. Not trying to stir the pot just trying to get a relatively simple answer. Thanks...looking forward to some new senior managment and working with you all.

yes we have no Trip or Duty rigs, we have no staffing formula, no reserve rules, we do have full pay protection within 24hrs of pairing origination, but the other stuff pretty much the FAR's.

The SSC from UAL inserted our work rules into the CAL skeds and the number was 400 pilots short.

Yes it's true!!! Here at CAL we have a certain group of guys and gals that think they saved the airline in 1983. They have been the ace in the hole for the company when it comes to contracts in the past. Those days are gone!

There are days I just want to shoot myself, just put me out of my misery, but then I realize I get to go to work, get dirty looks and bad attitudes from some fat old ugly grandmother who thinks she not only owns the galley but signs for the airplane. Fellas it doesn't get any better than that.

Before or after the fall man power reduction? By the way why do they reduce mainline flights in the fall instead of express? %^$# Express!!!!!!

we have no staffing formula
Sure we do. It just is ineffective...which I know is what you meant ;)

And I've often wondered if our System Staffing Committee enforces paragraph B below.

Section 24.2.A.1-6
Part 2 - Staffing
A. The number of assignments required to be staffed by Base, Equipment, and Status, not including assignments staffed by management pilots and Flight Instructors or other double-bid pilots on leaves of absence, will be determined for each bid period by application of the following formula:

  1. Scheduled hours for each (including augmented crew positions and including an estimate of Deadhead utilizing the formula prescribed in Section 25.4.A [25.7.D.2 effective with PBS implementation] and rig time pursuant to Section 4.3) divided by 83:30 = # of pilots
  2. Reserve (10% of item #1) = # of pilots
  3. Charter hours divided by 65:00 = # of pilots
  4. Projected Sick leave man months = # of pilots
  5. Vacation man months = # of pilots
  6. Training man months = # of pilots
Total System pilot requirements = sum of pilots

B. The number of pilots to be staffed in each bid period will be no less than the requirements produced by the above formula. To respond to fluctuations in flying time, sick leave, vacation and training, the denominator of 83:30 in the formula above may be increased separately for each Base, Equipment and Status no more than:

  1. A total of fourteen hours (14:00) in any calendar year
  2. Four (4) bid periods in any calendar year
  3. Three hours and thirty minutes (3:30) in any bid period.

XJT usually takes a roughly 10,000 block hour reduction in COEX flying in September every year. It came early this year at some point in August.
