Question for an AA pilot

Friend just rode on AA to Hawaii and froze his arse the whole way. He and many others asked the F/A to please warm it up. She responded that they couldn't as it was company policy to keep it at this temp. She than offered to sell them a blanket for $8.
My question is, is it really company policy or were the F/A's PMSing and telling the crew to cool down the back.
