I love this site. Have paid and will again.
Yet, I am a creature of logic and reason.
I received this private message (as all of you did) asking for donations. In the message it read:
"Please help support this valuable and free resource for our aviation community."
Not trying to be a D!ck, but am I the only one who sees the irony in asking for money (getting it from me) and THEN calling this a free site?
I mean...It's only FREE if you are one of the "dirty rotten ungrateful scabs" who don't pay (which I did) and it sounds like payment may be mandatory for access in the future. Not that I have a problem with that (it's a GREAT site).... It’s just seems odd to be calling for money and then labeling it a free site.
My point is...if you say the site is free....then like all frugal people, I want to be one of people who gets it for free. Obviously I'm not alone since less than 2% of registered users have given money!
However, if a subscription access is mandatory...then I will pay and be happy with my purchase. I am but one person, so I say let the market decide.
Bottom line.... let capitalism prevail.
If you truly believe that this site is worth charging a subscription, then charge it. If the market agrees, then you will have the necessary funds to keep the site aloft. If not.... then you go the way of "Web Van" and "the Camaro".
I believe a "fair" subscription ($1 a month or less) is marketable.
But that's just my opinion, like I said...let the market decide.
Bottom line... when I hear the word "donation" I think "charity".
I have no problem with charity.
However, I do have a problem with calling this site "charity".
Which is what you do when you ask for donations.
It's a GREAT web site, message board, and resource for all aspects concerning aviation, but c'mon.... it's not charity.

P.S. I'm sorry that I mentioned "Capitalism". I know that word is the equivalent of cursing to some of you out there.
