QANTAS at IAH???

I was just wondering if anyone else saw the What looked like a QANTAS Dash 8 at Trajen at IAH today. It looked just like QANTAS. I may be wrong though just curious.

Aparently, it's QUANTAS's new 15-stop service from SYD-IAH utilizing the Dash 8s..

I was at the training center today and it was parked at Trajen. Just curious what its all about.

I seem to have heard that it was doing demo work prior to delivery. There was one in FLL a few weeks back. Was it a Q400 ?

There was an article before Colgan started flying in houston that Cal wanted someone to fly a few 50 seat turbo props for them. So a demo for CAL might be likely.

Word on the street is that Colgan is wanting to fly them out of IAH. They are looking into 50 and 70 seat turbo props.
Better be careful Express Jet. You could be on the out.

Well they better get in-line then behind CHQ, Skywest, Mesa, etc... I'm sure a 50-70 seat turboprop will do outstanding flying from IAH to YYZ, BFL, TUS, BOI, RDU, CLT, IND, MKE, OMA, MEX, SLC, DTW, PIT, IAD, etc... Customers have long been know to love turboprop comfort especially on long flights. Oh yeah when it comes to 70 seat aircraft of any sort I believe the CAL pilots would like to have a little word with Colgan.

If Colgan is looking to start a war, then they've found one.

Give me a break. Colgan has never owned anything other than junk since they've been in business. You think they're actually going to go out and buy Q400's? Please. Not to mention none of the short routes that CAL needs turboprops for would justify something as big and costly as the Q400. Hell there are plenty of ATR's baking in the desert that are as cheap as the dirt they are parked on.

I was at Trajen on Friday (where the Quantas DHC-8 was parked) and the girl behind the counter told me "it's a demo for Continental". It was their new quiet turboprop that cruises at FL310. She said that "the regional that works for Continental" had been evaluating the airplane all week.

Guess either Colgan or Expressjet will be getting Dash-8's....my money is on Colgan.

I don't understand why they would rather have Colgan do it than Express. I mean, from the rumors I've heard, CAL can't be too happy with the service they have gotten so far from Colgan and their Saabs. Sorry, I could be wrong, but I just don't buy it.

Of course rather XJT than Colgan, but I don't think we are getting props, so if somebody has to do it, let it be Colgan.

I would have to agree with you there. It would sure be nice to have that growth at XJT though....this "all jet fleet" stuff seems rather ridiculous to me. Bring 'em on.

ugh, I miss Houston so much

hmmm...I'm Larry K.....give the new planes to the union carrier or the non union carrier...hmmmm......tough choice here....hmmm.....

I doubt it will happen anyway. The whole concept is a little bit retarded since we're just a few years removed from parking a fleet of ATR's in the desert. I guess those are probably scrapmetal by now. You can be certain that Expressjet won't be getting any new aircraft orders for a loooong time; but you can prepare for the Texas Whipsaw massacre....coming soon to an Intergalactic Bushport near you in 2007......hurry up and FedEx the EMB 170 manuals to the colgan crewroom!

I'd rather ride a 70 seat turbo-prop than that piece of crap Bombardier 70 seater!

A few months ago there was a -400 making the rounds to a bunch of the regionals. If someone brings a new airplane to show off, why not go take a free ride.

Here is part of an article from January.

ST. GEORGE, UT, PRNewswire/ -- (NASDAQ: SKYW) SkyWest Airlines, Inc. announced today the joint decision with Continental Airlines to end their relationship for turboprop flying as a Continental Connection carrier serving certain markets from Continental’s Houston, Texas hub. The decision was primarily due to Continental’s desire to utilize a larger turboprop aircraft due to operational constraints in certain markets and to SkyWest’s determination that the flights did not meet SkyWest’s financial objectives. SkyWest’s primary objective in previously entering a contract with Continental was to reestablish a productive relationship and demonstrate our commitment to quality and the ability to deliver a cost competitive product. We believe we achieved these objectives and look forward to providing service for Continental again at some time in the future.

XJT cannot fly props for some time due to the SEC filing relating to the IPO. I am not sure the time frame, but XJT will have to be prop free for a considerable amount of time before considering taking them back on. There would be some serious SEC violations IMHO if XJT tried to get props at this time. The SEC filing was for an all jet airline.

Besides, Management has no desire to have another prop on property right now. Maybe their philosophy will change in 2007 when we are really competing for CAL flying...

We at Colgan are not looking to start any wars...

Hey dumb*ss, before you start the war of words, let the Dom speak on this....
Colgan ain't nothing but a little harmless fuzzball that can't even keep the planes it has now in the air with all the MX problems we're having. The Feds won't even let us have anymore Saabs til MX gets it's act together, thus hiring has been slowed down a bit.

Continental was the airline doing the demo ride in the Q400. It was not Colgan. I can assure you of that. CAL is looking to either lease/purchase a 50-70 seat turboprop fleet and re-lease the planes out on a contract basis. No carrier has been awarded the 50+ prop contract at CAL yet. Who knows what will happen next.

Before you start bashing us at Colgan, let me remind you that first off....nobody at Colgan and I mean no one has come on here and bashed any other carrier about this. If any of my Colgan hommies do, they will answer to me and Furio. So give us a break please. We know we suck and we aren't numero uno. We are just trying to do our jobs professionally, do our time and move on. Who knows you may see my smiling face one day at Southwest or I may flash my badge as Eddie the Feddie. So it's fair game, whomever gets the bid, gets it. But don't sit here and declare war on us at Colgan. We don't have bullets or guns to shoot back at ya. We may have a few spitballs, but that's it. So as the Domly Godfather of the Colgan Mafia, I come here today to make the peace with the other the heads of the 5 families. And I swear on the graves of my grandchildren that I will not take any vengance on anyone at this table today. Salute!

If anyone from the Dog Chow brotherhood is reading this, you must call upon me first. You owe me that.

"We know we suck and we aren't numero uno."

The godfather reveals himself to be a Yankees fan. seriously...take a little pride in your company, dude, and make it better.
