Anyone out there have any hard dispatch reliability numbers on the DHC-8 Q400?

The one's PDT has work 0% of the time......

They work great if they're maintained correctly. Why do you ask?

Thanks for the input so far. Anybody have any actual dipatch reliability numbers? I'm wondering what F9 Holdings is getting into by buying the Q400s for Lynx. Operationally, it seems like a great choice, I'm just curious if there are problems keeping them operational.

All I can tell you is that Horizon has made a ton of mods in an effort to correct the problems. Last count I heard was some crazy number like over 175 mods. I am not sure how accurate that is, but I do know they have managed to get the reliability better. Still not great... but better. I would assume that most new off the line 400's are built with some of these mods that were designed to improve it. But hey who knows when you deal with Bombardier.

Lowest average monthly dispatch reliability for 2006 for the Q400 at QX was 96% (compared to 97% for the Q200). Lowest average monthly scheduled completion rate for 2006 was a little over 97% (compared to 98% for the Q200).

Anecdotally, I heard that 14 of the 20 Q400s was OTS at one time about 2 weeks ago. Bye bye OPR!

Those numbers must include all the flights that the RJ substituted for the 400. Latest rough numbers of cancellations for the last five week bid period was Q400-117 Q200-35 CR700-28, again rough numbers from a check airmen.

Last 30 days of mechanical cancellations at Horizon (15,914 flights)

Q400 Mechanical (20 airplanes): 120, completion rate: 96.5%
Q200 Mechanical (28 airplanes): 156, completion rate: 97.0%
CRJ-700 Mechanical (21 airplanes): 29, completion rate: 98.6%

I've heard that it's hard to reliably dispatch a number of Q 400's.

That is just not true. Yes, the -400's have their good days and their bad days. They continue to be the "workhorses" of the fleet. You might remember that QX was the North American "launch customer" for this aircraft. They have had to work all the "bugs" out of the beasts.

You have to keep in mind the majority of the "mods" that have taken place are in reference to the CAT IIIb qualifications. The a/c does not arrive from Bombardier with the mods. QX has to install them and test them ect. Not to mention these are the ONLY turbo prop aircraft with single engine capabilities. That alone increases its reliability.

Comparatively, the -400's range, payload capabilities and speed are not much different from the CRJ7. It is restricted to FL250 due to no drop down masks. However landing performance for contaminated runways on the CRJ7 is much more restrictive than the DH8D.

Just curious. What do you mean?

The QX Q400 was the first turboprop (and perhaps only one yet?) to be single-engine Cat III certified.

Obviously, the poster didn't mean that they were the only turboprop with single-engine capabilities, though that's what he/she typed.
