Supply and Demand?
This is a resigned and disappointing attitude.
Thank you Slick for pointing out one facet of my reason to call attention to the ad.
First, $28K is not what you take home after taxes and THEIR TRAINING CONTRACT. This salary is nowhere in sight of any of the Low wages reported to ProPilot Mag's 2003 Salary Study that is barely 3 months old!!!:::
-A Corporate Lear Captain REPORTED MINUMUM take home (after taxes) is $39K for 25 Series and $57k for 35 Series for 2003
-For Cargo ops you SHOULD EXPECT AT LEAST $40k per year in the bank after taxes
Second, there is no mention of a type rating or current 8410. Obviously they are aware that no PROFESSIONAL will go to work for them at that pay and under this contract agreement. So they are apparently looking for a schmoe to send to a cut-rate simulator school to get a fire-hose feed of Lear systems and ops and a cracker-jack type rating. I would bet the 8410 is done in the aircraft by a company check airman.
I don't know why we sit here and rip, flame and pulverize Mesa, Freedom and Republic type companies while allowing these folks to go unscathed with the exact same tactics just because they are on a smaller scale. This behavior is just as unacceptable and has the same affect on the industry as a whole.
As a business owner and operator, I would be disrespecting my employees by showing them of little value and confidence to the company by paying that ridiculous amount for the expectations I would have; don’t bend, crash, abuse my airplanes, use company established profiles and procedures, be efficient and on time. There is a growing consensus out there raping aviation at whatever cost. I have been a victim of other companies taking business without profit and at considerable expense just to get the contract. There is no way in “H” “E” double hock sticks they can cover costs much less turn a profit on some of my customers for less than I was able to keep a little fo myself. But, they sure try; they turn around and stick it to the people that [try] make their business work. Eventually they will die [the companies] and all the people will be looking for jobs and people like me will never bother to call on resumes with a history that includes working at these establishments for this kind of pay. You cannot put new wine into old wineskins. It only takes one rotten apple to spoil the barrel.
A whole separate argument can ensue from this point with regard to qualifications and experience to fly a 400 Knott aircraft. As I said before, no Current and Qualified Professional will assume that post in that aircraft for that amount of money. This means that the captain will be 3-4k total time with 1,000 multi and 500 turbine (King Air) with only 1,500 PIC after 30 hours in type under 135 with an FO somewhere between 2k and 3k total and 500 Multi. This flight crew will be shooting approaches over my house in minimal weather conditions throughout the NE, oh and just in time for winter! WOOHOO!! Also, the company allows Cat I ILS’s with 800 RVR. Sleep well Memphis, Columbus and Teterboro US JETS is rocking now!!
