Got years and several million miles on the purdy neat stuff roller bags.
High quality and clever design, but pricey...Guess it goes hand in hand.

Purdy Neat. Built like a tank and designed to be beaten up. It's just my personal opinion, but if you're not going for a Purdy Neat, just go to trashmart and get a cheapy suitcase every year or so.

Some new guys can justify paying less every year than a lot up front (which catches up to you around upgrade time). It's a matter of personal choice. But when your underwear and uniform shirts are blowing around the ramp because your cheap bag's zipper split... Well you got what you paid for.

Just my $.02

I use Samsonite "hard shell" for my "big suitcase" and its been beaten up, dropped, fallen off baggage carts, etc, for 2 years and still in good shape, minus alot of scratches

Purdy Neat makes both a plastic frame and metal frame. I bought the metal framed "tech" bag with a slot for my laptop inside the suitcase so that, in theory, it won't get crushed. The thing is a tank. My best friend has 2 plastic framed PNT bags and they both have major cracks in the plastic spine. That's why I picked up the metal frame. It is heavier but I can stand on it to get the "top shelf" ramen down from the cupboard when I want to eat well and it doesn't even flex a little.

Yeah, I want to lean towards the metal framed bag too. However, my concern would be getting it in to an over head baggage bin. Would it fit in say, a NW 757 overhead? I jumpseated on that for the first time and my current bag would not fit.

Wankel

The metal and plastic bags are the same thickness. I have had quite a few cheap suitcases and the PNT is thinner by about 2 inches and length-wise it will fit. I don't remember ever having problems fitting it in any overhead. Maybe the smaller RJ's could be tight but heck, I would just plane side check the thing. It can take it. Fully loaded, that thing is heavy so be careful loading that thing above people's heads.

BTW Wankle, I love the avatar. I wanted to see that movie. Any good?

I have the 23 inch PNS Bag and if not way to overstuffed, it fits just fine in anything I throw at it. I have the plastic framed one and it has been pretty sturdy, but in retrospect, I might have been inclined to get the metal framed one. But rest-assured if you ever have any problem with the bag, the people at PNS in Missourri will send you a part ASAP. The Flight Bag hook broke off of mine and they had me a replacement in a little over 48 hours. I had to pay for the part, as the bag was out of warranty, but shipping was very prompt.

I'd buy another one in a heartbeat.

PNT. Had mine since 1998. Send it in twice for a tune up. First time in warrenty, second time cost $80. Quality bag. Wouldn't use anything else. Hate using anything else. Maybe I'll but the comany so they never go out of biz.....

Nah, I haven't seen the movie yet. I was waiting to go with another pilot:) I am sure it would be better that way.

Wonder how much that metal framed one weighs. My current case fully packed weighs 37lbs.

Any of you guys have the large PNS stealth bag? I am spending way to much time on the road, between visiting the kids and commuting to a 4 day trip. Any comments on the bag, how does it fit in most aircraft.

Thanks

AA

Ditto the above comments on the metal PNT bag. I have been using the $90 Costco "Flight Attendant Special" (F.A.S.,lifetime warranty) for the last 6 months, since I finally broke my 1996 vintage PNT bag. After a 6 month test drive, I am going to send the PNT back for a rebuild.

The Costco bag is pretty good overall, but for the power user pilot, loaded with a laptop, non descript bag, flight bag, overnight clothes, Steinberger etc, it is not quite up to snuff. The axles are starting to bend on mine, and it won't balance with anything hanging off of it (I put the clips from my PNT for the overflow bag on my FAS). You have to lean it against something to stand up. A pain on escalators etc. It does have a good bit of room in it, but the smaller PNT bag was easier to pack. Plus, there is no pocket that can be accessed on the FAS without removing the flight bag.

PNT is by far the best bag I've ever used.........

If you fly or plan to fly the 737, get the narrower of the metal framed roller bags (13" instread of the 14", I think it is), as the 14" is a real PIA to get under the jumpseat in the 737......... They both fit in overheads fine, but you'll wish you got the 13" if you fly the 737!

I think you can order the Purdy bags without the side pockets in which case, the 14" may fit ok under the jumpseat. I've had mine for 3 1/2 years a do not use the side pockets for anything. They just get in the way and 80% of them that I have have ripped zippers from sliding them under the jumpseat.

I have the Wingman and I like it alot. It has the same metal frame as the PNT, but it's interior. It has a lifetime guarantee and they refurbish it for free every two years. It also has plastic runners on the bottom for curb jumpin' and easy sliding into overheads and it fits into CRJ overheads. www.wingmanluggage.com If you order by phone you get $10 off and free shipping.

I use the 27" PNS... Fit's in the CRJ overhead and it fit's "long way" in just about everywhere else. When JS on full flights it can be a challenge.

Like everyone states, great bag, can pack a ton of stuff and it can tip the scale.

Tried the Costco special, that works too, but if you put too much stuff in the front pocket you can run into trouble getting it to fit in the overheads.

Got the $$$ go PNS
