Hi all-
Does anybody have any info on living in Puerto Rico? What I am curious about is the average rent, utillities, etc. in the San Juan area. What is the best part of town to live in on a FO's pay? Is it possible to get around without a car, or should I get a scooter or something?

Any info is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.:D

If you live in Puerto Rico, I would assume you're gonna fly out of San Juan International, so I wouldn't live too far from the airport cause of the heavy traffic. I suggest anywhere close to SJU. Apt. Rent can average from $500-$900 mo. depending on how dumpy you want the place. San Juan is a very old city (500 years), so a lot of places are congested, fillthy and expensive.

It is possible to get around without a car in San Juan, because there is public tranporttation (i.e. ferry boats, buses), but I suggest getting the crappiest, cheap car you can find cause those PR's drive like their in a crash durby race. Don't spend much on your ride, and I wouldn't bother with insurance cause only 1/4 of the island has it. If you get hit (in you car), just keep going, don't get out cause that is the easiest way to get robbed.
Don't get a scooter, cause it's really dangerous to be on one, and even more dangerous to be on one in PR.

The women are to die for. The PR womem are the most beautiful women, I've ever seen. If you like dark, black hair with light skin you got it. If you like blonds with blue eye speaking spanish, you got it. If you like black chicks that speak spanish, you got it too. They have it all and they are all beautiful.

It's a fun place; enjoy!

I used to live in Isla Verde right off the south end of runway 10 in SJU. I second the women, I have gone out dancing and have seen more unbelievable women on the dance floor than in the whole state of Florida. Amazing, the women alone are worth it. Get an old beater car, driving is fun and games. Don
't worry about getting robbed just carry a 12 inch switchblade with you and know how to use it.

I remember when I lived there and one night I took my girlfriend out to dinner at "Pinones point", right near the airport there.

There are a bunch of outdoor restaruants there and after we were done eating we were walking back to the car and there were about ten guys trying to break in our car. I was like "hey WTF?" and they just ignored me and still tried to use the slim jim in the door. We got in and left.....I am so glad I am out of that place.

If you go, Good Luck....It is not all it is "cracked up to be." Especially since they closed that steak house.....What was the name of it?.........oh yeah Black Angus......

Lear-

by the way, as for the car try to buy a cheap SUV (nothing is really cheap). I went through three cars there in a year and a half because the roads were so crappy...mostly broken axles from the pot holes......

Just learn some Puerto Rican judo..."judo know if I gotta gun, judo know if I gotta knife..."

I know nothing about PR yet, but I'm spending my vacation in and around San Juan next week. If I find out anything earth shattering or different from the above, I'll report it.

I'm staying in Condado. Can anyone in the know give me some club names for some heterosexual mingling?

Try Lupis over at Old San Juan. They have one in Isla Verde as well. For a quieter bar by the beach go to the Playita...They have an Ailrine discount on Beer. (at least 3 yrs ago they did) Coronas were only a buck. And if you call Corona Mexican pisss water they get offended. To them its Puerto Rican pisss water.

For the Crash Padder try the Apt complex Costa Del Sol. Many Eagle pilots are lucky enough to live there.

The women have the curviest bodies of any nationality. Unfortunately you have to brown bag em.

P.S. by the car and stay away from the busses

Black Angus!!!

Ha! LearAv8r, that cracked me up. They sure had some ugly looking cuts of beef in that place.

And don't let all these guys scare you. PR can be a dangerous place, but just have some common sense. Learn to drive like they do (maniacs) and drink lots of Medella. Alchohol content is listed as 3 - 5%. So it may take 3 or it may take 6 to get you a buzz. The fun is never knowing how many it'll take.

I second the busses comment, stay away from those....their schedule is strictly island time at best.

As for the Medella Beer, it is awesome, unfortunatly because there are no preservatives you can't buy it in the states. at least from what I can find!!!

Good luck, you are gonna need it....
