Memphis-based Pinnacle Airlines, for instance, which pays starting pilots $20,000 a year, was forced to cancel flights in February because it couldn't train new pilots fast enough to replace those getting offers from bigger carriers.

"We shut our recruiting pipeline down in October because we had such a surplus of pilots," said Phil Trenary, Pinnacle's chief executive.
"It's open now."

Was there ever a surplus of pilots at Pinnacle? I knew one guy who got JM'ed twice in October, so surely, that doesn't sound like a surplus to me. Or, did PT not want to tell the media the truth: they stopped running classes to pressure the pilot group into signing a concessionary contract?

Hahahahahahahahaha..........

Ah, god, let me catch my breath. Alright, I'm good now...

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Well sure they had a surplus. You have to think like management.

If they don't have any trouble staffing flights and there's no cancellations due to lack of crews, then you're overstaffed.

Remember, that also comes from the same management team that says they EXPECT a certain number of diverts. If there aren't that minimum number of diverts, they're carrying too much fuel.

Same theory applies here. They expect a certain cancellation level due to staffing. No cancellations = overstaffed. Nevermind that the WAY they staff is to force people to work on their days off, that's perfectly acceptable. ;)

Ahhhh.........that sounds like us.

No worries. When there is not a pilot contract signed by March 31, Northwest will take back the 17 CRJs causing the staffing problem...

Why doesn't someone send a Letter To The Editor explaining what's actually going on at Pinnacle? While you're at it, send an email to Jane Roberts telling her that article isn't exactly all the truth.

We all bitch about PNCL, right? You've got a million or so readers of the paper here in the Memphis area. Tell the readers what's going on here.

Special Note to Pilot Applicants

Canadian Law prohibits an individual who has been convicted of a DUI/DWI within the last 10 years from entering or exiting Canada. Special paperwork must be obtained through the Canadian Consulate so that a waiver may be obtained. This waiver must be obtained prior to our airline interview.

Awesome! A special welcome to those with recent DUI/DWIs! Doesn't sound like they are getting too many qualified applicants.

ROFLMAO!

That's pretty funny...

Although, if the hotel is single occupancy, that plus the $200 a week is about what they were paying street Captains when they were desperate for them.

It's definitely a start in the right direction. That plus a contract with some pay increases might get them more than just a handful of qualified applicants who can make it through the interview.

Hi!

That is correct. Pinnacle has NO hourly MINIMUMS. The mins are:
Comm
Multi
Inst

Wonderful. Drinking and driving, no big deal. Right! It's like they are saying they are ok with it. Unbelievable!

:(

single occupancy?

i don't think the hotel is a room to yourself. I had a roommate 2 a few months back and I will be honest...everyone in my class knows how cool he was...but i dont even know if he is still around...on the seniority list but no line award...wierd
