No, these are not the only two sure things in life. That's death and taxes (and that the Stones will tour again).

My question is about itemized deductions. Can time in Prince Sultan Air Base be legally claimed under "nonreimbursed business expenses"?

I know that other locales can be claimed if you didn't receive the full per diem rate. But, PSAB provides food, lodging and a whopping $3.50 a day.

Has anyone else been to PSAB that itemizes deductions and claimed more?

I wasn't at PSAB but was at OAIX (Bagram). While I didn't claim any business related deductions, I would feel comfortable claiming anything I had to do to make things a little better in excess of the whopping 3.50 a day.

I did choose to deduct some expenses that I was forced to endure at home since I was deployed and not able to do them myself. Might be a bit of a stretch but I feel comfortable saying if I had not been deployed, I would not have had to do these so in my pea sized pilot brain that was enough. I was just happy that I didn't have to claim any of my pay because of the location.

One other thing for military tax filers. You may have noticed that the W2s didn't list any amount in bock 14 this year. In the past, that is where DFAS reported our non-taxable pays which used count against you in cliaming among other things the child tax credit. The IRS came out with a policy statement last year no longer requiring us to report it, but the software I used didn't realize it yet (TaxCut) so I just put in 0, otherwise would have lost the 600/child credit.

Hope this helps!
