Not sure if there is a different way of applying you might want to check it out. They fly 1900's and I see them all the time in CLT. I was just thinking that it would offer a fast upgrade probably close to home for you as opposed to commuting to Montana for Big Sky.

Well I thought they were hiring for flying out of BOS.

APC says Big Sky is opening a Cincinnati OH domicile soon. That would be an easy commute from AVL. I think there are a few airlines going direct between AVL and CVG. Pay doesn't seem too bad for a 3rd year captain at Big Sky ($38). It sure beats 3rd year CA pay at the other 1900 operators - Colgan, Great Lakes, Air Midwest, and Gulfstream. I figure with all these places hiring street captains, showing up at one with 1000-1200 total time would be the way to go for close to a 1 year upgrade. Thoughts?

"I'm seriously considering PSA right now. Timing might be good with the J4J recalls and all. I live in AVL which is a 2 hour drive from either CLT or TYS. If I didn't want to pay for a hotel maybe I could just drive the commute. Round trip would cost about the same in gas though. "

The 1.5 hour call out isn't going to get you anywhere if you live 2 hours away. They don't have common courtsey to give you anything more than contractual 1.5 hours call to the minute. Plus even with all the J4J's living it could take over 1.5 years to replace them on top of it you are still reserve. Mesa has a base in clt! Have fun!

Hot reserve is the longest in the industry. its either a 10 or 15 minute call out and your on duty for 10 hours. . . . no other airline even comes close to that. That also includes the fact that you have to be there till midnight if you happened to draw that straw.

Take it from someone that has been stuck on this horrible reserve system for almost 3 years. Only been quick called once they usually like to give 2-3 hours notice. Reserve in TYS, usually if they don't use you by 2pm you're done for the day. Last Flt out in TYS is around 7pm in CLT they have the 10pm bank so there they can get you late.

Yea, you sit at the airport for 10 hours only making per diem.

Ya its gets better....If you get Hot reserve and you have already flown 72hrs you do not get paid. That's right you are sitting in the airport for FREE. Well you do get the per diem and an order of flabby gut from eating airport food.

Now if you call in sick, you get your 3.5 or so hours of pay on top of the 72.

Well, in DAY anyways there is a quiet room to go sleep in, but a fair number of skanky crew members have hooked up in there so it's really not a great place to catch a nap (maybe something else though). Other then that, you wander around. Listen to other people complain about how bad they have it. Some times they do actually call you out to fly, but that is pretty rare.

I get to the airport at 5am, and sleep in my car as long as possible. I then drive into town and pick up breakfast at a fast food joint. I then drive over next to a building that has WiFi on the airport property, and surf Teh Interweb until my laptop battery dies. I then change into my uniform in the car, and head into the crew room to play some Super Nintendo, or watch a DVD on my laptop. At about 245, I start walking to my car (we are done at 3).

I think I beat every single game on that thing when I was based up in DAY. Then I beat Sabre and asked "Dad" for some new games, he was nice and got me Shares for Christmas, even though it was a little late. He camped out at Wal Mart but was trampled so he was off work for a while and couldn't afford anything for a couple of months. Things are going pretty slow right now, it might take me a while to beat Shares.

I've been up for a few all night gaming marathons VS shares. I brought a case of Red Bull into the crew room and plugged in my headset so I could trash talk with the people I'm playing but the reservation agents at the 1-800 number kept hanging up on me when I would yell, "I'm gonna open up a can of whoop azz with the name Shares written all over it."

I think the commuters with the early shows trying to sleep weren't too happy either.

I'd like an order of thunderthighs, two double chins, and a set of man t!tties to go, please!

I say come work for PSA!

I say come work for PSA! They will remind you daily to update your apps to the majors. Reserve, the way they treat you and the constant reminders of management that you are worth nothing will inspire you to leave. Your pay check will always be wrong to the tune of 10% or more and not in your favor. If there is one reason to apply to PSA it is so you will be constantly reminded to update your applications. You don't come to PSA for a career, it is solely a stepping stone. What can I say, I'm an optimist. ;)
