Agree 100%

I've found that learning to fly safely, and now learning to fly professionally, have made me and many other wayward folks better people and better citizens.
As professionals, we hold ourselves out to the public as experts in our fields and offering a service. Just like attorneys, doctors, real estate agents, bankers.

I was quite impressed recently, when, as a new hire at a major, I found that the FOM actually refers to the requirement to adhere to the ALPA code of ethics.
We should, at all new-hire orientations, be stressing this to all pilots, especially at the regionals.
Many of these young people have never worked real jobs and learned what it takes to serve.

I guess I have a love/hate relationship with alpa right now, but they(we) are our best thing going in this environment. "You can't choose your family..."
Sometimes alpa is more reliable than family....
My alpa brothers and sisters helped me out a lot more than my family did last year, during two major health crises.....
