Hey folks,I just got hired with Mesa into the ERJ. I would like to hear any advice that you guys might have when it comes to prepping for training and getting ahead of the power curve during training... thanks

This might sound weird, but I think you should relax your last few days at home. This is gonna be the last time you are gonna have the free time to relax for a while. Besides that dont try to study stuff before hand that does not come from the company. Some stuff from other companies can be different even though its a EMB 145 (IE diff engines, EICAS versions, etc.) Also dont try to learn any limitations or memory items that dont come from the company because those are usually company specific. If the company does send you stuff then read it and know it cold before your first day of class.

If you dont get anything in the mail then you can expect training to go like this. The first part of class will be related to FARS and company procedures/ops specs. Then you will go into systems class. Then sim then finally IOE. Study what the company says to study when they say to study it. IE during the first part of class study the company stuff because you will usually be tested on that before you go over systems at all. While you are studying that you can take some time everyday to go over memory items and limitations because you will need to know all of those WORD FOR WORD.

The last thing is make sure to make a little bit of time for yourself everyday. If you do things right you will study pretty much all of the time. Usually you will get maybe about 1 hour a day to yourself. If you do that then you should be fine in training.

First day you won't do too much. Alot of sitting around, drug testing and that's about it. A couple people will come in a talk to you about the company, then you'll leave.

Groundschool will start out with GOM and company operations. This is the frist week of class. Study this and ONLY this. Because at the end of the first week you're going to have your GOM/OP SPECS quiz. You don't pass with an 80% or better and you go home. The last 3 weeks of class are on systems. From what I remember there is a test at the end of each week; again a 80% is needed to continue on. They'll give you homework/quizes each night to take home on each system. Then at the end of the 4th week is the big final on the GOM and all systems and some regs. Just take your time, don't rush through studying and you'll do just fine. Then on to the CPT and sim. But that's a whole different game.

As mentioned above, take time for yourself each day. Sitting around the hotel for 10 hours after class won't do you any good. Feel free to shoot a PM my way if you have any questions on specifics of Mesa training. I'll be happy to answer them if I can.

Good luck, and most importantly, HAVE FUN!

If you have any questions feel free to shoot a PM my way.
