PPonk: O-470 to TSIO-520-McC

Hey,

I'm selling a plane and the engine STC says the engine is a 285HP (2,700rpm @ 32.5") TSIO-520-McC from a 235HP O-470. It's not turbo'd and it's not fuel injected, I've checked. The data plate, stc, and logs match.

It was explained to me that the engine really is a TSIO-520 (modified to an -McC), only with the turbo and injection system removed. Since it was born a TSIO, it has to remain a TSIO.

Does this make sense and can it legally be called a 285HP engine if the STC says it is. Common HP output for this type of PPonk mod is 265-275HP.

Well if the stc says so than yes you are able to make those claims.

I am assuming that the pistons and or cylinders have been changed as a part of the mod in order to make 285hp?

If this is a 182, which a lot of PPONKS are, you might check over at the Cessna.org site. The PPONK owner posts over there, and you can probably get a direct answer to your question from the source.
