As a non-mil pilot, I say take the path of least resistance. Go to the college of your choice, get a non-aviation degree and, from minute one, start banging on the door of every Guard unit in the area.

Get good grades in college, have a little fun, don't get busted for anything (especially weed!) and you should get to UPT shortly after graduation.

Don't get me wrong--to be selected for, attend and graduate from ANY of the service academies is quite a feat and something to be proud of. (You might even learn to not leave a participle dangling... ;) )

If you want to be an Admiral or an Astronaut, go for the academy. If you want to be a line pilot, go ANG or at least OTS/AOCS (or whatever it's called now).

Good luck. TC

P.S.--I'm trying to talk my daughter (freshman at ASU) into applying for a guard slot in PHX.
