Jim Ream, the CEO of ExpressJet Airlines Inc. informed the XJT pilot group yesterday that there are plenty of "poor silly fools" willing to fly for the current rates being paid to regional jet pilots, specifically mentioning MESA and Chitaqua.

He's gotta way with words, doesn't he? He fancies himself a mini-Gordon Bethune. He's certainly not.

well, if this contract allows for the type of rules and pay that those poor silly fools find attractive, ya know what? they can have my seat. i'ts not worth it.

It was worth it to you when you took the job Mr <2000 FO. Get real! You will be the 1st to sell out when a crappy T/A is placed in front of your no nothing nose.

Why the long face, FSB?

At least the first part of what Lequip said was right. The second remains to be seen.

Well, at least it was right minus the confusion of the < vs > thing. ;)

You know these guys are already taking a beating...their RJ rates for FO's are worse than Mesa's...

...although, their work rules are certainly better.

Hope this time around the captain's don't leave the new guys behind.

okay, i give you that. it was worth it when i got hired, and was hired with less than 2000 hours. (1500 to be closer to precise) everyone was hiring back then, and the sky was the limit. things change. every one of us have witnessed and experienced the change. therefore, the seat i currently occupy is not worth what they're proposing right now. 5 years ago, it was. now it's not.
i could end up in this seat, or at least, at this airline for a very very long time. hence, my surmision of it not being 'worth it.'

...and it will continue to be worth it for any number of aspiring airline pilots that are plugging along, building their hours in bugsmashers and night cargo.

Every one of US may have experienced the changes in the industry, but feel for the guy or gal that was nearing a thousand hours in late 2001 and has had to sit for three more years waiting for an offer to fly 121. Most will pounce on the first job they're offered, and the airlines know it. Whether or not Mr. Ream should've put it the way he did is debatable, but the reality of the situation is not.

I hope you are successful in dramatically raising the FO rates at XJet, as I have more than one friend who is sitting in the right seat over there... But I, for one, won't be surprised if you can't pull it off. But in the meantime, don't pooh-pooh the new-hires that are willing to work for $20/hr in an RJ, because you were one of those new-hires once, too, and got paid even less (though not in an RJ, I imagine).

In any case, good luck to y'all.

Thanks. I am one of those guys and I will continue to sit by while the regionals are at these wage levels.

Well, I guess you will continue to sit then. Eventually you will be like everyone else and take a low-paying FO position at a regional or go another route in your aviation career. If you wait out a wholesale rise in FO pay in the regionals, you will be sitting for a very long time, indeed.

I guess I will or head off in another direction.

However, I hear Shuttle America may get RJ's and my former flight instructor is a captain there and maybe he can walk my resume in and....

i don't disagree, and i'm not arguing. in fact, we're pretty well saying the same thing. however, my point is, i'm beginning to doubt the future of this industry. nobody's fault, and i'm not pointing fault. i took a risk, ran with it, and don't like the results. so what i'm saying is, if things remain the same, i no longer see the reward worth the risks; just a personal opinion. so if things don't change via this contract cycle, then someone else can have my seat.

Here is a clue, people LIKE YOU who took those low paying jobs, and continue to take them are shaping the future of the industry.

It will pay less and less every year and in some small part, we can that all the pilots working for peanuts for that!

Its your industry, you helped build the rules. Have fun, I'm working on my PhD and flying gliders for fun as of this month.

Hey Mr. High & Mighty, I hope they don't give you a PHD with spelling like "that".
