My family usually spends part of February and/or March in Orange Beach, AL (between Pensacola and Gulf Shores). The amount of construction along the barrier islands down there over just the past five years has been incredible. Even assuming the construction has been using the new southern building standards, I'm not convinced some of those new high-rises will make it through this storm. The place we've stayed seemed like it was built much closer to the water than it should have been, and if NWS and NHC are correct in their prediction of 35 to 40 foot waves it very likely won't survive this storm.

I have flown in to both Gulf Shores (JKA) and Pensacola (PNS). Great airports both, and the GA operations are very well managed.

God help them all. Our prayers are with them.
