Hey lear, pcl128, and other 9e pilots: As former 9e guy, I saw this in the 10k filing on friday;

The collective bargaining agreement between our Company and the Airline Pilots Association ("ALPA"), the union representing our pilots, became amendable in April 2005. We have been actively negotiating with ALPA for the past several months. We have informed ALPA that we believe Northwest will require successful resolution of our pilot contract negotiations as a condition to assuming our ASA. We expect to conclude negotiations shortly.

Now that it looks like we avoided the nwa bomb, any thoughts on this comment or is this more of PT's BS.
 
The company offereing us an acceptable deal is entirely up to them.

Hey,
Mesaba Mgmnt has offered us a deal too!
The funny thing is our negotiations will be ending soon also. (And maybe flying altogether too)
 
It's managements job to say that they expect us to conclude negotiations soon. Shows optimism (lies) to the stock holders.

Now when we are still negotiating in a year from now, they can blame us for being too demanding in the current revenue environment.

I'd say that's about the size of it.

Management is negotiating on a pretty rapid pace, the negotiating committee is actually pleasantly surprised. I believe the quote went, "We'll negotiate just as fast they want to as long as we're making progress."

They were just finishing up the Scheduling section when 3 guys went off the reservation and turned down a flight assignment during IROPS (Irregular Operations - weather & such). They were completely inside their contractual right to do so, management fired them anyway for "insubordination" as they believe we should "fly now, grieve later".

This brought a loophole to management's attention regarding IROPS and now the whole scheduling section is on hold until they get us to agree to basically waive the contract during IROPS (or at least that's the information I have).

It's the only section of the contract with any meat on it that's been seriously worked on nearly to the point of being able to T.A. that section. They've done a lot of little crap like uniforms and dues checkoff but nothing substantial until now.

I don't think Northwest would withhold their award of flying or take any aircraft because our negotiations weren't finished in record time, sounds like a lot of management posturing to the public to me, FWIW.
 
if it was necessary to have a contract to bid on the nwa flying, then we wouldn't have even been allowed to do it, or Pinnacle would have declared bankruptcy to try to impose a contract on us.

That's a scary thought.

Careful w/ that one. Screw scheduling would declare that 24/7!

The company wanted CA's to take a 5% cut with FO's getting a 20% raise only for the second year (as of December 05). It was quickly declined.


Everyone I have spoken with is not going to budge when it comes to concessions. We are already basically the bottom.
 
Negotiations have been moving relatively quickly for the past week or so. Several sections are very near completion, with Scheduling one of the major ones. Junior Assignment is still a hot-button issue that is being worked on in that section. Both sides exchanged openers for the payrate tables, and both sides were very far apart. Progress is being made, but saying that "negotiations will conclude shortly" might be a slight bit optimistic. Things are definitely moving more quickly than before, but it remains to be seen how long that will go on.
