Im getting pretty bummed out here... I dont get it. I have almost 900tt and over 600multi time, and no phone call to get an interview. Ive applied to Air Wisconsin, Mesa, Great Lakes, SkyWest (I understand their situation, not hiring again till '06), and Island Air.

I am very picky in who I want to fly for, as I dont want to be with an airline for only 1 or 2 years. I would want to stay with someone for 5+ years.

I just dont get why no has called me yet. People are getting hired with only 100multi.

Any suggestions (besides the fact that I should stop whining :D )?

Dude, you don't have any time. You don't even meet 135 mins. You're not even qualified to haul checks in a beat up Cherokee 6.

Build your time and be patient.

thats your problem... apply everywhere and get an interview and if u dont like it then say no.... be sure ur sending ur resume w/ a current first class...get ur ATP written

ive seen people getting hired with only 500tt and 100multi.

Should I send an updated resume every month or every 100hrs added to my logbook.

Great Lakes = Quick upgrade
Mesa = Possible HNL base (home)

Good points - and it can't hurt to practice those interviewing skills.

Dude, why isn't ExpressJet on your list? I sent my stuff last Sunday night and had a message waiting when I woke up Monday morning (1100 TT, current 135 FO). Results may vary, but from what I hear, XJT is among the best, so why not give 'em a shot?

Easy there Kailua,

In the mid 90's things were waaaayyy worse than they are now. It took an average of 2 or 3 thousand hours before the regionals would even acknowledge your existence. You should be counting your lucky stars that you don't have but a third of that time and yet apparently you still have a shot at getting a job.

Also, remember that you need to have the skills, not just the hours, to be able to keep your job once you attain it. With your extremely low time, and resultant lack of experience, I would suggest making sure you stay current in your instrument proficiency, to preclude you from washing out once you do get the job.

Good luck to ya, bra.

I just got a call from ASA and the resume they got was stamped July 28th.

I can understand your frustration, I had almost 2000 TT and 300+ multi when I shotgunned the resumes out. That included almost 1500 dual given. People that get hired with lower time know people that walk their resumes in. If you don't know anyone then keep bugging HR departments till they get sick of you and tell you to take a hike or give you a shot.

Also, it might be your resume and cover letter. Have them looked over by some pilot friends if you can. I had a friend that happened to be a pilot recruiter give me good tips on mine.

P.S. I got an email with some Island Air info in it:

Island Air
Pilots
HI
[email protected]
Havilland Dash-8s, 1000 hr TFW &
200 hrs MFW. Commercial Rating

I'm not sure if they are like skywest, but skywest is VERY firm on its 1000 hour requirement, or so I hear.

get used to "hearing" things if this is an industry you want to get into.
So true.

Let me get this straight. As cwebster2 pointed out, you want to stay somewhere 5+ years yet you don't want to go somewhere that has a possible 4 year upgrade? WTF? To be honest, you're not really at a point in your career to be quite as picky as you are.

Sure, you can try to get into Mesa and hope that JO and his evil empire open their little HI operation. Then you can come home and be labeled a scab by all your bruddahs at HA, AQ and WP. No one is going to be real pleased if they show up and especially if JO goes through with his union-bypass talk.

You can try WP but I guarantee they won't talk to you until you pass 1000 TT. Then you can come sit in the pool and possibly end up at the bottom of a stagnant seniority list for 5+ years.

Keep building time and stop whining about instructing. Do you think you're the only one in your position? Put in the work and something will pan out.

PS. Don't go to PW.....

If you have 900 hours and are losing motivation, then this is going to be a very long career.

Whoa, three weeks from now!

Enjoy Christmas off. Things always get slow this time of year. The managers and training department folks like to take the holidays off and they are in the position to do it. We on the other hand will be flying a three day worth $56 in pay, talking to our families over a calling card from a Holiday Inn that smells like mold and eating peanuts off the airplane because nothing is open when we duty out at 02:17 in FzDz and SN.

I know instructing starts to suck after a while. Especially if you are away from home/friends/family, as in your case. am i right? You can try doing traffic watch/banner towing/skydiving if you hate flight instructing so bad. I got on with a regional with about 1050 hours. so just a little bit more than you. ANd i would say I am lucky to get on with such little time. I probably had the least amount of time in my class. So to think that the airlines owe you anything because you have 900tt is a little ridiculous. But i was in your shoes and its because you hear about all these kids getting on with regionals at like 600 hours at ATP or any other academy. Its not the norm. So dont go by that standard. If you want it so bad you can fork out 5k and go to allatps and do that CRJ course. Though I would advise against it since you are so close to the 1000 hour mark. that should open up a couple more options for you. good luck

kailuaboy...do more drinkin!

you seem to have this irrational exuberance whiich is likened to holding two tickets to a great ball game or concert and you're in this big ass hurry to leave the house. You break almost every traffic law driving across town to get to the stadium. Once you get over the hill, you see a line ten miles long of traffic and a nice long wait to get your seat...... Settle down, pal.

I would bombard AWAC with resumes. Fax it, email it, snail mail it, etc. A good trick is to send a self addressed stamped postcard with your resume with a note asking that it be put in the outgoing mail. That way you can at least get confirmation that your resume arrived at the companies you are applying to. I got hired at Great Lakes by making sure everybody knew who I was and how bad I wanted to get hired. A friend of mine who is interviewing here at AWAC got the interview by speaking directly with the pilot who does the interviews. Be creative without being overbearing. I haven't heard of anybody flying a cessna to ATW yet. Maybe a little face to face time would help.

I would second that on AWAC.. they're were at the job fair in ATL recently. Were begging people to stand in line... everybody else was in the JBlu or AirT line.

fast upgrade the guy said 18 months
