I am in the application process for the plc (aviation) program for the marines, and I would like to know what people thought of it that have been through.

Its a very good deal because you get an earlier Pay Entry Base Date (the date they start computing you for pay purposes - i.e., you make more money). Also, if you finish your 20 years as a reservist; the 10 week course counts for 1 good year towards retirement - and the two 6 week courses count as 2 years towards retirement!
Good Luck and Semper Fi.

PS: If your D.I. ever sees you write "marine" instead of "Marine", you are going to be doing a litttttttle extra PT..... :)

If you're going to become a Marine officer, it's a no brainer... the PLC program is the way to go.

As 46driver alluded to... you're going to make more money (beginning with your first paycheck and continuing throughout your career) than a guy who signs up for OCS after college or an acadmey grad.

Plus, you can attend your first increment (if you do OCS in 2 increments) and if you decide it's not for you you can walk away.

When I went through the PLC program I was able to get my private pilot's license and $100 per month (hopefully it's more now) courtesy of the USMC while in college (after attending my first increment of OCS). The private pilot was available for those with an aviation gurantee.

I don't know if those options are still available, but even if they aren't it's still the best way to go.

Good luck &
Semper Fi

Dumb as a rock works just as well..... :) Seriously, I had a blast and would recommend the Corps. You don't have to necessarily make it a career but it IS an experience you will never forget - and glad you did. Good Luck and Semper Fi.

I am an Aviation Candidate in PLC myself. I have been through the Junior course. (6 week) Having been through Boot Camp before I can say that mentally OCS was no big deal. However physically it was a real ass kicker. Much harder than enlisted boot camp. I am going back this summer. I have debated the other services as well, and still have hints of Air Force floating around the back of my head. But I am a Marine first and foremost and that is my primary motivation in pursuing a comission as a Marine. With no prior military experiance OCS would be pretty rough. But still quite passable. I think like 65-70% of all non-prior service candidates complete the course.
