The media was at first saying it was a "Piper", but now they think it might have been a commuter plane.
MILAN, Italy — A small plane crashed into the tallest building in Milan Thursday evening, and smoke could be seen pouring out of the top floors of the skyscraper.
There were no immediate reports of deaths or injuries. Police and ambulances were rushing to the Pirelli building in downtown Milan.
Italian state television said the crash put a hole in the 25th floor of the 30-story building. A police official said it was a Piper tourist plane and that the crash had set the top floors on fire.
RAI state TV reported that the plane had apparently radioed an SOS because of engine trouble prior to the crash, which occurred at 6 p.m. local time.
Earlier, in Rome, the senate's president, Marcello Pera, said it "very probably" appeared to be a terrorist attack.
The Pirelli building houses the administrative offices of the Lombardy regional government and adjoins the city's central train station.
