Small plane crashes in Riverwest area

A single-engine plane crashed into the Riverwest neighborhood about 6 p.m. Saturday. Witnesses said the pilot was moving in the cockpit as the plane dangled from electrical wires.

A single-engine plane crashed into the Riverwest neighborhood about 6 p.m. today, knocking out power to the immediate area.

Firefighters used a bucket lift to rescue the pilot from the plane, which was dangling in power lines near Humboldt Ave. and Clarke St. His condition was not immediately known.

It was not known whether anyone else was on the plane. It wasn’t known whether anyone on the ground was injured.

The lights on the plane were still on and the plane’s nose was pointing into the ground. The plane came to rest about three feet off the ground.

It wasn't a crash, he was practicing being a "naval aviator" by catching the number 3 wire....
Pilot Rescued After Plane Tangles in Wires
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A pilot whose small plane became tangled in utility wires as he tried to land in a thunderstorm Saturday evening was pulled to safety after dangling from the lines for about two hours.

The plane was hanging nose down, about 10 feet off the ground when police were called to the scene shortly after 6 p.m., said Milwaukee Police spokeswoman Anne E. Schwartz.

The pilot, identified as a 37-year-old man from Elkhorn, was alone in the plane and conscious.

"We were in contact with him the whole time," firefighter Steve Scherer said. "He's doing fine."The pilot, who was hospitalized Saturday night, was trying to land at Lawrence J. Timmerman Airport. He had called off his approach several times before the plane got caught in the utility lines, Schwartz said.

The crash knocked out power to 3,600 customers, and power was cut to 4,100 more for safety, said We Energies spokeswoman Beth Martin. Most of the power was restored by 10 p.m., she said.

Authorities brought in a crane to lift the plane out of the wires.

A PA-28-181 is an archer, not an arrow. Glad to hear that he made it.

I'm glad he didn't do it last night...I hate getting diverted off of 94 by the cops...they never do the "serve" part of "protect and serve" by giving good directions to motorists who get shunted off of the interstate those bastages.

There was some guy that landed at APV today with half of his left wing and part of his right wing gone. He hit some powerlines out but the airport jacking around. God was on his side today.

It's just a rhetorical question, but how would you know if the devil didn't keep him alive so that he could sin some more?
