I might have missed it in an earlier thread (I'm new), but is there any knowledge of what exactly the NWA RFP is for? Is it specifically for the 50 seat flying they already have (interview-with-the-bobs-style [Office Space]), just for the 76 seat stuff, or some compilation thereof.

Furthermore, any thoughts on whether the recent press of 9E's zero cancellation streak will help them at the negotiation table...

I'm almost positive that it was for the current crj flying at Pinnacle (plus the 2 at Mesaba) it has nothing to do with proposed larger planes.

Unfortunately, that doesn't mean anything at the negotiating table. If anything, it shows that the company can operate short staffed and still run the airline just fine.

Mesaba + Pinnacle = Compass
Hey man I'm fairly certain that the big point of the scope language change in the NWA TA was that NWA could start a 3rd airlink airline, amongst onther things. However, it sounds like 9E has a chance to get 55(or more) 76-seaters that would otherwise go to compass. I'm trying to get a handle on the chances of that happening.

Not to be a party pooper, but I don't see 9E getting 76 seaters, that will be for Compass. Just my opinion

ok thanks! Any idea why they are hiring?? I have heard attrition that people are bailing out while the getting is good. I have also heard the whole 70 seat thing.

That seems to be a pretty common debate; as to whether the hiring is just for attrition or for future flying. Airlinepilotcentral.com shows they're hiring 350-500 pilots this year! Who knows the validity of that statement. However, if it is correct, considering their pilot group numbers roughly 1200, I have a hard time believing it is all for attrition. I know they lose a lot of guys, but are they really planning on losing 40% of their pilot group this year?....something to think about.

Pinnacle is not a good place to work, I am sure people are finding better jobs.

yes they do lose 40% of their pilot group. I think I heard about 20-30 pilots quit per month here. It is not for future flying they hire just to staff the planes they have. The company culture at Pinnacle is very negative. Fire first ask questions later. You can run a plane off of a runway and not get fired but have a sick call and you will be fired or warned. It is weird the culture they have developed. It is almost like management uses scare tactics. Lets say you have to have a day off, you can not call the base manager because it is always denied so you have to be sick which is bad for the company and passengers. They have everyone so scared over there it is actually hurting them. It is somewhat childish. You report to a base manager (non-pilot) not the cheif pilot. I thought that was kind of unusual. Of course the limited time I spent at Pinnacle was unusual. I worked at ASA as well and I am comparing it to ASA so if Pinnacle was your first or only regional job (this place is a job not a career) you would not realize how bad it is. In fact they still owe me money for January that was never paid, I get the typical check is in the mail but the check never comes. Stay away from them if you can, I learned the hard way and fortunetualy I got a much better job after only spending 7 months with them. It felt like a jail sentence.

"Plus the 2 at Mesaba"

Unfortunately, that looks like it maybe down to 1. The latest release from Jinglepants says that Northwest wants to give one to Compass.

I don't think Cape air put a bid on it...could be wrong though

Pinnacle.. first we are a regioinal, remember that first and foremost, We are NOT a major or a larger LCC. We are a regional and always have been and will always be one.

The corporate culture is clueless with a firm foundation in Memphis math and kool aid production. We don't have a fire first ask questions later,we have a bunch of moron's who don't know how to run an airlines less a business. Our Middle management runs the airline not the directors or VP's.

We also have a bunch of pilots who are children at best. The type that either have the worst work ethic I have ever seen or think they are privillaged and deserve everything. Many have never worked for an airline or even a real job before coming to this company. Many of our "problem" children are our junior guys/gals who you have to wonder how they ever got hired in the first place.

The reason for the heavy handed actions by the company are directly due to the actions of the children we have.

Our attrtition is about 40/60 CA/FO's right now. The current guys getting upgrade have been here about 2-3 years. I would expect it to stay the same. We are hiring primarily for attrition. We barely have over 1100 pilots.

Are we a good place to work for? I would say it depends on what you are looking for. The are many others hiring, pick what is best for you. Don't take the word of someone who is doing lateral movements to find the greener pastures. Many of the people you will find complaining about Pinnacle are those who are moving from regional to regional.

The RFP will not be decided until NWAMEC decides on the TA they currently have, then Comapass, finally the RFP for 9E and XJ. Not a minute sooner

you don't have pass bennies so you can't fly home.. if youhave them from another source, just make sure you are back for class

I believe new hires stay in the Holiday Inn Select Memphis Airport. Double occupancy. Hopefully a few guys in class will have wheels. There is nothing close to the hotel.
