Once upon a time, I heard about some deal that new hires would have to pay a certain amount of money for training if they didn't meet the 300 multi requirement....is that still going on?

Do any of you guys know if PCL has any sort of internship or bridge program with university students?

They used to have one with Delta State, and have had a few Riddle interns. I don't believe there are any interns here now.

I think the closest bridge program i can think of is the gulfstream program. Our routes changes every month (thanx to NWA), so we never know when we'll go next month.

If you have less than the min's (1500/300) the company wants you to pay something like $10K.. they then pay you back over 2 years I think...

I think the LAST person to do that route was about 5 years ago, maybe longer...

With the amount of qualified people out there, HR is not even looking at people that are at or close to the min's anymore.

In my N/H class (2 1/2+ years ago)... 2 people were at Min's.. they were told no to bother to come to class unless they met the min's.. Their logbooks were both audited to make sure they met the min's before commencing class.

As for Street Captains again story...
I think was another ploy to piss off the pilot group by our management.

Upgrades... 2.5 to 3 years currently with about 20+ FO's in EACH base waiting to hold a line before making a jump to the left seat. I could see it going as low as 2 years.. but once those senior FO's can hold a line.. it will climb again.

Let's be real about this.. just about every FO with 2 1/2 years or better with the company will have the time and definately the seniority by the time the last jet is on the property. A 2 year FO is about seniority number 550 or so and we have just over 800 pilots currently.

Saying we will break into the 600's in seniority for Captain is possible, but it would be the VERY low 600's...

Most junior FO recently to be awarded Captain is about 420.. That is with 83 jets on the property...

we are getting another 46 jets at a staffing of about 4 per plane...

do the math and you will see where it will top out on upgrades.

The dudes getting hired today thinking they will see upgrade in 3 years were sold the same line of crap I was sold when I was hired.. Back then it was upgrade in less than a year. Then again, that was BEFORE they retired the Saab fleet.

Unless some serious attrition happens I agree that we could have upgrades in the 5 year or better category.

All of the GIA people who "may" be a factor.. will have the time in another 18 months or so. That alone will support the "theory" of 5 years or better once the last jet hits the tarmac in a little more than a year.

I think in order to fulfill mgmt's tale of "upgrade in 18 mo.", either they fire everybody for calling in sick, or NWA gave us the rest of the rj options. What do you guys think?

training

Is it true that you don't get paid until you take and pass your checkride at the end of the two month period of training? Also, I'm assuming that you have to pay for the housing (hotel room most likely) yourself during training? Any comments --

I would not put it past our mgmt to "weed" out the pilot ranks...

As for no pay until checkride.. that is true.. no pay, no travel bennies, no ID, no per diem...

Find a crash pad and go to MEM with about $1000 and you can make it the 2 months.

This is ONE item that our MEC will change on next contract. Sadly though.. we probably will nto be hiring at that time or anytime real soon to make a difference.

It does suck, but it is NOT the pilots policy so please save the digs for our managment as THEY wrote it not us...

Heard from a relative who flies for you guys, that you cannot call in sick more tham 3 times within 12 months, or you are terminated. If this is true, why would you let this happen? How is it legal in the United States?

My company wouldn't even do that.

Yep, it's true. Three times in a rolling twelve month period and you get to do a carpet dance. Alpa legal is "checking" into it. Sounds like a civil suite waiting to happen to me. This place is getting worse and worse!

This is one case when those dues will really pay off. ALPA will K.F.A. on this case and the company will look stupid.

3 times in a year and your canned? That is totally lame. Hella lame. Wicked lame. But on par for a member carrier of the NWA family.

Do you think pilots run the airlines?? We didn't LET anyone do this....it just happened because our mngmt "team" in Memphis is about as smart as a chicken with it's head cut off.....on a good day. The answer is it's not legal in the United States because it's against the US Dept of Labor laws. You aren't terminated, but "subject to disciplinary action".....so it's just more harassment that the company is going to wish it hadn't engaged in come contract time.

The "3 times sick and you are fired" is unfortunately pretty much a regional standard. ALPA can't / won't do anything about it so don't hold your breath.

No Jumpseat or ID during training? Ouch. So you guys drove there and camped out in the crash pad for 2 months and didn't get paid? That's some serious dedication to your career... I'm impressed. I'm not being sarcastic either.

From what you guys are saying though, it's a good place to be once you're in.
