This is meant for some venting from my last four day. I am sure to hear allot about it.

The big question is why do some major pilots think they have the right to throw little pissy comments over the radio, when at times important things are going on.

IE. "Delta you are following a citrus 717 let me know when you got him in sight"
"yeah we got the critter in sight" now when they ask if I have delta in sight, I do not say I have a D not sure delta or there credit rating

"United follow Airtran out to 19L"
"Yeah we will follow valujet"

That one I had to respond to so (and yes before you start bashing about pissy comments I did) I just stated call us what you want but when you are furloughed send your resume to Airtan.

I am sure there are many others and it is not just Airtran but is there a reason. Do all majors hate the ones that are making a little money or are they upset we have A/C on order hiring pilots or do some of there pilots just get off on trying to be cool.

As a furloughed pilot from brand X major airline, I hope you KICK THE CRAP out of Delta in Hotlanta :). Yonited is getting their last shots prior to the unemployment line so just smile when you hear this garbage :). Fly safe.

Sounds like you let words from someone else affect your self esteem. Why would you do that?

In every pi$$ing match I've heard over the radio both sides sound equally bad.

Pity them.

Misery loves company.

It's human nature and maybe even a trait of pilots everywhere.

We're very competitive. I'd like to see more cammeraderie and less rivalry but where would this industry be if everyone got along?

Can you imagine it?

"Delta 410 heavy, traffic 10 o'clock, 4 miles, eastbound ATR-72 at 4500." "Yeah, we got the little prop guy in sight" Candler 145, traffic 12 o'clock, 4 miles, northbound, heavy L-1011 at 3500". My captains response, (my leg) "Yeah, we've got the big fat guy in sight"

ouch!

Easy there big fella!

737 Pylt,

Don't worry about Snake, he is a very angry person. He's angry at Netjets, and now apparently he's angry at Delta. He's leaving Netjets soon and he will be angry at his new place of employment also.

I think it's funny that you never (not that I have heard) the Turboprop or LCC guys start the pissin contest. Just remember it’s the FO who does the talking on the ground…hhmmmmm? Maybe it was his old company and he has issues.

It's too bad that there are those who have to take their frustrations out on other pilots simply because of the company they work for. It's too bad that there are those who feel that in order to prosper, it must be at the expense of others. It's too bad that there are those who feel the need to find a scapegoat and point the finger of blame at individual pilots.

In my long and well-traveled career, I have seen things from virtually every point of view. I have been at the regionals (although when I was there, they were called "commuters"). I have been at the LCCs. I have been at the Supplementals. And I am now at my 3rd Major. I have been through furloughs, bankruptcies and gone down other roads by choice.

Through it all, I have come to realize that we are all pilots, doing what we do and putting up with all the crap because we simply can't see ourselves doing anything else. We are doing what we are doing, where we are doing it, because we felt this was the best (or perhaps the ONLY) option at the time. But, I have never felt the need to point the finger at another individual pilot as the root of my perceived problems. I have never felt the need to take out my frustrations on other individual pilots, or for that matter, a particular pilot group. I try and understand that everyone is doing the best that they can do based on their current circumstance, and that more often than not, those circumstances are beyond that individual's control. We all are trying to make things better, and are hoping things DO get better. At least I do. I hope someday things get better for everyone. And I wish this to happen at the expense of no one. Now, I know this is far-fetched, what with the nature of this industry. It is just as cut-throat as the most viscious of industries...the entertainment industry, the sports industry. But still, no matter what happens, I try and keep a proper perspective, that it is not any one pilot's fault. We are all just doing the best we can do with the hand we are dealt.

Right, wrong, or otherwise, this is how I have chosen to live my life...and it seems to be working well for me.

Jetdawg,

You know the old saying about putting yourself in the other guys shoes? Well think about the pilots at the legacy carriers who have taken massive cuts in pay of 30% or more! The pillaging of their workrules! etc, etc. Why have they been forced to take these cuts?? To compete with the LCC's. So my question to you is how would you feel if brand x airline comes in and undercuts your airtran and offers the same service by having lower costs, which include lower pilot wages. Who knows how far things will fall. I dont think any of us would have imagined wages and workrules being where they are now prior to 9-11. I can see it now. 717 FO's topping out at $35,000 a year and Cpts. at $75,000. So I ask you, would you not have a few snide remarks for those pilots who have in combinations with other forces, caused downward pressure on your wages?

Why do you think he was saying something bad about the 717, it's crew, or it's company? CRITTER was ValuJets callsign, and I personally think it had a lot more class than CITRUS. I still hear us called ACEY, it sure doesn't bother me. Now I did hear a DAL pilot say he didn't know what an ATR looked like when getting his sequence, we just figured he was prematurly senile...I figure if they call you CRITTER they are honoring your past...

we all know critter was the VJ call sign and I would highly doubt Delta, is, was or ever would be honoring our past.

Pipejockey, for an airline to come somewhere and undercut our prices and make us take a pay cut sure it may happen and sure I may not be happy about it but I hope I am man enough to say it to my F.O. and not have to spread it over the radio.

Best one I ever heard was:

United Following a Net Jets Citation X out of LAX.

United pilot "Center this is United XYZ , We are trying to make up some time today. Can you move that little business jet out of our way."

LAX Center, in the most unimpressed controller voice " Ahh United XYZ, He is already showing 75 knots faster than you, I don't think your going to catch him."

Rofl...

"So I ask you, would you not have a few snide remarks for those pilots who have in combinations with other forces, caused downward pressure on your wages?"

Please show me a pilot who will work towards lowering another pilot's wages. I know a few who will accept employment (even furloughed pilots) with a carrier who pays differently than another carrier...but I am yet to meet one who's goal is to "cause downward pressure on your wages".

Just today I heard Delta ask what they were following (they were slowed). ATC responded "Dash 8". Delta's response-"Just our luck"...

What is it with Delta? If the worst luck they have is getting behind a Dash they are pretty d@mn blessed!

About 1996 we were taxiing down the inner in ATL when ground cleared a Delta to follow us (we were in a BAe-146).

Delta said, "Roger, follow the bottom-feeder."

The captain promptly split open the speed brake located under the rudder of the BAe and keyed the mike, going "Pfffffft" like he was passing gas....

Another time, right after Delta bought ASA 100%, I heard an Acey cleared behind a Delta. He said, "Roger, follow big brother." There was a pregnant pause, then Delta said, "Big brother wants a DNA test."

heard this from someone

United checks-in on center freq.

"-United 123, flight level 350, moderate chop"

Center: "-United 123, moderete chop is reported all altitudes from 15000 up to FL 410"

a few seconds later, young voice: "-It's smooth up here...at five-one-oh..."

United: "-Oh yeah?...and hows the pay up there?"

(Of course that was in the good old days...)

I was at FLL and headed for 9L..

At the end a Delta was shut down with just the APU running..

They told us to expect delays and to pull up behind Delta.

We kept ours running and left some room behind Delta..

Tower.."Delta XYZ you ready to go?"

Delta.."Nawh..We need a few minutes to get em cranked"

Tower.."Southwest XYZ..You ready?"

Me.."we got two turning and can get by Delta"

Tower.."Ok..Southwest XYZ taxi into position and hold"

Delta.."Hey now..wait a minute..We were here first"

Tower.."sorry..I got a slot and need to put someone in it..You aint ready.."

Another voice on radio.."waaaaaaaaa"

Delta.."Fu#@ you guys"

Tower.."SAY AGAIN?!!"

Delta Captain.."sorry..disregard"

Tower.."I thought so..Southwest XYZ contact departure"

Me.."Southwest XYZ over to departure..Have a great day"

Tower.."We are going to try..Delta..Are you READY yet?"

Mike

Tower: G4 copy ifr to xyz via ...... contact when your ready to taxi

G4: cleared to xyz via .... and we're ready to go

Tower: Archer------ hold short for G4

US: rgr

10 seconds later:

Tower: G4 YOU DID NOT JUST USE THE A5 RAMP CONNECTOR DID YOU?!? DID YOU MORONS CHECK THE ATIS ITS CLOSED TO AIRCRAFT YOUR SIZE!

G4:(acting all cocky) Umm whoops guess we werent paying attention besides there was a Cessna at A4

Tower: Did you idiots forget that A6 was right ahead if you or are you guys rookies who dont even know the airport layout?
