Wow, this is so da**ed funny.

If you don't think mechanics view pilots as idiots, you sure don't know many mechanics.

But -- they know the BEST pilot jokes, hands down.

And... they might just tell you a few, if they think you can handle it.

Just remember:
Pilots go nowhere without mechanics.

NASCAR drivers go nowhere w/o mechanics.
Cruise ship CAs go nowhere w/o mechanics.
Space shuttle pilots go nowhere w/o mechanics.
Cadillac drivers go nowhere w/o mechanics.
---and yes, pilots go nowhere w/o mechanics.

Master of the obvious.

Who would you rather be? The perceived top of the pecking order is usually the 'drivers'. The 'top' is always the butt of the jokes in any profession. Now, if you ACT like you're the top, you're an idiot and deserve ridicule.

Those that have worked and earned their way there understand the position and responsibilities -- and know that it's a team effort usually and that they are lucky enough to be the 'driver'.

If you find yourself defending yourself against dumb pilot jokes, you don't get it. Just smile, nod, and say 'yeah, that's really funny'. Then walk over and strap in and take off.

Generally perceived by the drivers, themselves. This is called arrogance, and equates roughly to a hill of beans.

Are you a 'driver'?

Not sure where you're coming from.

There is a 'top' in everything. Whether perceived or actual, or both. If arrogance is displayed, it's the weakness of the individual but doesn't change facts. If jealousy is an issue, then it's just an issue.

If you don't view the upper level of any earned position in an industry or profession as the 'top' then perhaps you haven't been there, don't want to be there, can't get there, don't know how to get there, or just ain't gonna be there.

Not every pilot is at the top of their game, just like not every Dr is, not every lawyer is, not every business owner is, not every office worker is, etc.

If you're there, you're there. If you're not and you're jealous, you're weak-minded and won't get there.

There are leaders and followers. There are doers and users. There are givers and takers. It's all choices.

The assumption that pilots are the upper level is arrogance, and foolishness.

Haven't been "there"...don't really know where "there" is. If you're referring to being employed as pilot, then yes, I'm "there." If you're referring to being employed as Captain, then yes, I'm "there," too. However, I don't see how this qualifies as the upper level...it's a job, like any other job, and any assumption to the contrary is sheer arrogance. Don't want to be "there?" If I knew where "there" was, I might be able to tell you. Apparently you believe that pilots represent some sort of elite level that equates to the "top." If that's what you choose to believe, so be it...and if that's the case, then you're right, I don't want to be "there." I work for a living, and make no bones about my own willingness to get my hands dirty. Been "there," done "that," and have many, many oil soaked, stained, and torn tee shirts to show for it.

Can't get "there?" Still don't know where "there" is. I have a monkey suit. It includes epaulets with four stripes, a tie, and even a little name badge that proclaims to the world I'm aircrew. That and a quarter won't buy a cup of coffee, of course...but then I don't drink coffee, and perhaps that keeps me out of "there," where ever "there" might be.

Don't know how to get "there?" Gotta give you that. One has to know what "there" is to get "there," and not knowing what "there" is presupposes that one knows not where "there" is, and therefore, one knows not how to get "there." I would be that one. Apparently I haven't arrived "there" yet, else it hasn't been properly placarded as "there," or perhaps even officially yet designated "there," presently. Accordingly, I must presume the requirement, by omission of clear identification, to continue searching for "there," where ever that might be. Check back from time to time, we'll keep you posted upon request.

Ain't gonna be "there?" That might be a bit presumptuous to say, but based on your arrogance in assumption of being "there" (you are "there," right?), not entirely unexpected. Rumors of my failure to arrive "there" may be somewhat premature.

Apparently, you don't know too many pilots.

Well, I for one, do. I'd say he's certainly on the money.

Maybe in your circles, but not mine. Of course there are some that think their sh!t doesn't stink. That occurs everywhere, and isn't unique to aviation. His blanket statement "pilots are so full of themselves" is all inclusive, not exclusive and doesn't wash with me.

Pilots are so full of themselves. Egotistical and many times ethnocentric. This forum proves both.
No, all this forum proves is that when people don't have to sign their name or show their face, opinions and smart *ss coments flow very freely. I think many times a pilot's confidence is mistaken for cockiness. I think the same applies to mechanics.

Very well put. I totally agree. Head over to baseops, into the military world, and you will notice some very cocky pilots. But then again, when you are sitting in some of the best & most expensive jets, went through the best training, and getting shot at, you have the right to be "cocky", I guess. I just try to watch my mouth around you guys, because I could one day work for one of you, that's the way I see it.;)

Wow Avbug, I don't now what else to say to you.

Reread my post. I made no claims, and no assumptions. You are inferring and assuming an awful lot from my post. You are 'assuming' I write with arrogance. You are assuming I claim to be 'there'. I claim jack.

I am awed by the good fortune I've had to get the training I've had. I'm awed by some of the great folks I work with. I'm awed by the fantastic machines I've been lucky enough to fly.

I'm confident, yes. This comes from years, and many hours in numerous jets. This is not arrogance. Fellow crewmembers expect this confidence, my company expects this confidence, the pax expect this confidence.

If you don't have this confidence, then I certainly don't want my wife and kids riding with you.

Fugawe

I don't want your wife or kids riding with me either.

I have full confidence in what I do, but I'm not in awe of my aircraft, my training, or myself. No matter how you slice it or spin it, being in awe of one's self and experience goes far beyond conceit.

As does being full of ones self enough to see ones self as the top, above all else.

BINGO!

Correct on all counts (In my humblest of opinions)

Ah Avbug, I'm starting to get the picture. You're a great spinmeister -- careful though, so was Don Quixote.

You have way too many demons for me to entertain. Perhaps your epaulets are just big chips, don't know.

You are averaging just under 100 posts/month on this forum. Don't know if you're the majority poster on other forums, I don't troll around that much. Get out, smell the roses, ease up, there is no conspiracy.

I'm done, mea culpa, uncle, you win, you own the forum, you da' man/woman, you bad, go dude, etc.

Best of luck - seriously,

In my experience I've met just as many dumbasses holding a wrench as holding a yoke. I've also met just as many good guys holding wrenches as yokes as well. Arguing over which group is dumber is pointless because there isn't one.

At least thus far no one has offered,

"Oh yeah? Well my crew chief can beat up your crew Chief!"

Not yet, anyway.

I can beat up your crew chief. But that's really beside the point.
