Don't forget the huge number of retiring airline pilots every year who wiil still want to work! Frax love these guys cause they ain't goin anywhere!!

jm727,

I knew that some airline refugees had gone to frax in years past. Are they still willing to hire 65ish people ? [I'm NOT looking for a job !]

About eight years ago, I was a 64 year old Frax captain. I flew several tours with a then 73 year old legacy retiree who claimed 13 type ratings from DC6 to 777.

rettro,
What some of the younger guys don't get is that for some, flying is in the blood. I was hired at an airline in the 70's. Then, when guys retired, many died within 5 years. Granted, a lifestyle heavy on booze, cigarettes and other things probably had an influence as well. Pilots will take crappy jobs just to keep flying. I'm lucky enough to own an airplane (well 25% of an airplane). It works for me, but others take different routes.

Amen.

I retired six years ago and lasted about four months before I signed on with CAP to fly C182s about 80 hours a year. Still miss the flight levels, but I don't miss weekly airlining, constantly shifting schedule, 185 hotel nights a year and the dreaded recurrent classroom sessions that I could have phoned in.

The fix will be age 67 or no age limit, just pass the physical. If this ever comes to be, the fractional pipeline of airline retirees will up and die.

Problem is I don't think the FAA can change that since it was congress who made the change. So I suspect congress would have to unchange it.
andthe changes would not have prevented the 3407 accident

Well, it's a number puzzle and I'm guessing this wouldn't do much to solve it.

Is there any data around showing how many 65+y/o frax pilots there are ?

And, if the frax world will hire a 65 y/o, wouldn't it also hire a 67 y/o ?

Netjets did not have a problem hiring 60 retirees, but have they hired any 65? Also, I would think there would be a lot fewer applying.
