we got baggage screening, baggage loaders, and F/A's.....and we dont do ski trips. You were an owner slave. No wonder Valujet seems like such an upgrade...

Sorry guys, the only people I will ever address as Captain are people who have a sheepskin bearing greetings from the President of the United States.

Not some tool in a polyester suit that needs a haircut and a serious attitude adjustment.

If you want to be called Captain, the Armed Forces are always looking for good people.

Actually, I have. I worked there for a year about twelve years ago.

The Chief Pilot and several assistant chiefs wore four stripes. But he and the others were all addressed as "Mr." It was part of that culture.

Depending on the situation, I would address whoever as "Mr.," "Ms." or "Captain" on the first reference until he/she says otherwise. That's how I was brought up. Call me old-fashioned. I agree with Ty's usage of Captain in the third person.

I do second all who say that those who demand to be addressed as "Captain" are indeed tools.

By the way, what "REAL" Corporate operator flies a Westwind??? I don't know of any Fortune 500's operating that sled... And if you were sluffing golf clubs and skis, they weren't working, which means it wsa some smucks barge... Again, you don't know half what you think you do...

Well, no. They told me it really wasn;t because I had only 2100TT, they told me it was because I was a lousy pilot, but I should keep it a secret.

Actually, one of the great things about being an airline pilot is that if you are paired w/an @sshole like you, it's really easy to just log on the computer, and change out the rest of your month. Buh-bye, Capt. A-hole.

And, the best part is the ability to leave your flight case in the bag room at work, and truly leave your work behind . . . . . . 17 days off per month, known in advance, and they can;t touch you.

A-hole protection and 17 hard days off per month? Priceless.

I'm not David, I'm some "dummy" that flys for "Valujet" and flew as a co-captain for my first year because "I'm a lousy pilot" who is getting ready to do his "third turn of the day through the SE" and "thinks that Miami is so great" because he just fell off the turnip tug . . . . . give me a break. Oh, and I don;t know the difference between a quality flight department and a shelter for battered pilots . . . .

Most people would consider it bad form to put people's personal info out there that was given to you in confidence, but if you think it is appropriate, I could dig through my PM's and return the favor, Bob.

I don;t care if you know who I am. But Brett and Mike will, because the next time they contact me trying to get help with a job fair, I will make sure to let them know that I can't offer any help, since you can't be trusted with personal info.

You are correct about that, in other countries it is a much more prestigeous position than it is here...

I'm only confused about someone like yourself being put in a position of "authority" and why you think it's OK to abuse your position.

It may not be "personal" information per se, but how many people fit that criteria that work for my company?

I wouldn;t try that "parlor trick" again . . . if someone were to suffer reperscussions (ie lost job or job opportunity) I believe you and the operator of the board could be liable for damages. Regardless of the outome, it would be very expensive to defend against.

In fact, there was a great board, much better than this one, called propilot.com that was run by a Skywest pilot. After a similar situation, he shut the message board down completely after receiving notice that someone was suing . . . .

Kind of a high-price to pay, but hey, knock yourself out.

Well, you either got it from tracing my ISP, or from someone who had contacted me for assistance getting on an AirTran. . . (Notice i didn;t respond with his personal information) . Either way, it's pretty sh!tty and i stand by what I said.

Pretty funny that a guy who is entrusted with keeping private the movements and activities of VVIP's can't seem to grasp how unprofessional your actions are.

Anyway, I am done with this string.

This anecdote refers to how to initially address a potential boss when you're trying to get a job.

Not only has my father never insisted on being called "Captain" to his face (in fact, he insisted people use his first name in almost all situations), but in five years of being an airline pilot and twenty years of hanging around them, I've never heard of a captain who insisted on being called "captain." I didn't know such folk existed until y'all brought it up.

Bobby, I worked at FlightSafety too. I was just kidding...I don't know anybody there who wanted to be called captain...but I wouldn't have put it past Peter Banfield or Larry Wakefield to insist on salutes! :D

Why do you take this stuff so seriously? Screw these clowns. They're a bunch of internet tough guys, bad asses at home in front of thier computers. Personally the Valujet refrence doesn't bother me at all. All my paychecks (including the $13,500 + per diem I made last month) clearly said AirTran on them.
 
One more thing. Posting what you think may be someones personal info on the internet is truly in poor taste, very low class.

Larry Wakefield?? Naw. He was a super quality guy. He started at FSI at the same time I did. I've learned from others that he is among the managers of the place now.

Mr. Banfield? Perhaps . . . . .

Actually, we addressed the Alitalia training captains who were on-site, properly and correctly, as "Captain." It was a pleasure to address these fine and accomplished individuals that way.

He was...but not anymore, I understand. Larry gave me a royal butt-chewing once for doing my job...guess I'm just bitter.

Oh well, guess it doesn't matter now.

Bob, the next suit you should consider is one against Rod Machado. He mentions you in every lecture he gives: at AOPA gatherings, on his video tapes and his "laugh and learn" series.

I figure he deserves a good scolding, at the very least. :D
