Anyone know of a database where I can search for pilots using a CFI Number? I need to get in touch with a old CFI but can't read this last name from the signature. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The FAA no longer provides this information. Formerly, you could perform a search using a certificate number or parital number, but no longer. Some databases, such as that on Landings.com, will allow you to search by certificate type and region; you can do the narrowing down on your own.

The FAA will not provide searches by partial social security number, certificate number, or date of birth. We no longer offer searches by partial SSN or partial certificate number.

I've had an ongoing exchange with the FAA regarding the release of any pilot information; the FAA maintains that while they will not release a pilot certificate number, they are required by congressional mandate to provide all other pilot information as public information. I disagree.

In my opinion, this practice should be stopped, both for privacy purposes, and for security reasons.

What about the request form that asks me if I wanted to be listed in the pilot database or not?

No, I think he simply cut and paste information posted on the FAA website related to the use of the FAA pilot database!
