Is PIC time just PIC time or is the quality or type of AC matter. For example which is more valuable 1000 PIC RJ or B-1900?

Good Question

I think they value both depending on the company and the individuals recruiting. Obviously if you are recruiting for higher tech flying (flight management computers, jet, etc) you are looking for people with past experience you can quickly upgrade. But on the other hand if your company flys a lot of weather to minimums and runs its national airline like a commuter operation, then perhaps you would lean to a B1900 pilot who has been slugging it out in the NE. What a recruiter is looking for is an age old question. I have both experiences and still deep in the recruiter's stacks.

Good luck,

Jet time is the name of the game....well most of the time.

PIC turbine, get 1000 of that; and then start worrying about jet vs prop vs cargo vs 121. IMHO.

Depends on where you want to go...

The answer to your question depends on where you want to go. Some airlines like Airtran will only consider Part 121 time. JetBlue requires time in equiment greater than 25,000 lbs. Southwest just cares about the 1000 pic turbine (fixed wing). So if you wanted Southwest I would get the 1000 PIC turbine, get the type and put in your application. If you wanted to go to Airtran I would go with a regional airline and upgrade in whatever comes first (turboprop or jet). If I wanted to go to Jetblue I would try to upgrade in equipment that is heavier than 25K. The reality is that airlines will look at your experience very differently and you must tailor your career taking that into account. Having said that, I would not walk away from a B1900D upgrade unless I had the choice of upgrading to something bigger at the same time.
Good luck with your choice. Our careers resemble playing the Wheel of Fortune...

Correction. Jet Blue's requirement is over 20,000 MTOW

Competitive hours can be significantly higher depending on the qualifications of the applicants in our system at any given time. We are currently seeing the following hours in candidates selected to interview:

Between 3,000 and 10,000 hours total time in airplanes
> 2,000 hours turbine PIC in jets
> 2,000 hours in airplanes over 20,000 lbs mtow
