RedDog and Vandal,
I was a student in the LGTO(Large Group Try Out) for the J school house and me and another ANG guy got our type ratings from the Little Rock FSDO based on our Form 8's after PIQ. I aquired the 10 hours primary time quickly during the month break we had between PIQ and PMQ and when I came back for PMQ me and the other guard guy went to the FSDO and applied for the type. After much explaining about the new MPD concept to this guy, he got mad at us and told us to go away and not to come back until we were finished with AC school. Since there is no AC school for us dudes I asked an observer from the 48th (who happend to be the chief of stan eval) who was in one of our sims the next day about it and he looked into it and called the FSDO and smoothed things out for us. Me, you, and all future students awe him a beer at the end of the course!
I'm sure the course has changed a bit but our PIQ consisted of all sims until our chekride. The sim wasn't Level D certified yet so we did most of the checkride profile in the sim until it came to landings which had to be accomplished in the airplane(thanks to AMC). We got one actual aircraft flight and our checkride in the aircraft. Stay in touch with your schoolhouse homies- I ran into two Marine classmates of mine in the desert last month.
