Stay away from Sunset Ford in Peoria. Had a bad experience with them a few years back.

Bill Heard Chevrolet in Scottsdale (McDowell and Scottsdale Rd) isnt too bad of a dealership.

In my experience, most of the dealers will rob you blind if you're not an experienced negotiator who has done his research.

My advice would be to check out the Auto Trader. You can pick one up in any Circle K. I think they're online too.

If I was you, I'd drive east to New Mexico. Cars are much cheaper here, and generally in better shape. I have a friend here who's only "job" is that he buys used cars in NM, and sells them in AZ for a few thousand bucks more each.

But in PHX the Pitre's are good folks (they actually live in NM), they also have dealerships in New Mexico.

And yes you can pick up an Auto Trader just about anywhere (and online). The dealers right now are all trying to hold out for way too much for thier vehicles, you can get a much better deal from a private seller. Most of these are selling cars to get new ones (so you'll see a lot of 98-99-2000 models) to get a new one with lower monthly payments. If you can pay with cash, you can really get a deal right now.

(we bought a used car this past week after looking all over AZ, NM and CO for what we wanted--got it 4,000 less than the dealers wanted for worse vehicles).

Research everything, you can find invoice prices at edmunds.com. I sold cars for awhile, just make sure you know everything you can. I quit, I couldn't sleep at night.

"...I couldn't sleep at night"

Good call.

Well thanks for the leads. I think i actually solved the car issue...net order of business is to find a reasonable crah pad in the PHX area.

Any mesa, southwest or other PHX based pilots know of crashpads that might be open to outsiders like myself?

Thanks.
