The first thing that pulled up for me on that website was Bangkok. :D

Can't stop laughing.

Bangkok, Oriental setting
And the city don't know that the city is getting
The creme de la creme of the chess world in a
Show with everything but Yul Brynner
Time flies -- doesn't seem a minute
Since the Tirolean spa had the chess boys in it
All change -- don't you know that when you
Play at this level there's no ordinary venue
It's Iceland -- or the Philippines -- or Hastings -- or -- or this place!

One night in Bangkok and the world's your oyster
The bars are temples but the pearls ain't free
You'll find a god in every golden cloister
And if you're lucky then the god's a she
I can feel an angel sliding up to me

One town's very like another
When your head's down over your pieces, brother

It's a drag, it's a bore, it's really such a pity
To be looking at the board, not looking at the city

Whaddya mean? Ya seen one crowded, polluted, stinking town --

Tea, girls, warm, sweet
Some are set up in the Somerset

Get Thai'd! You're talking to a tourist
Whose every move's among the purest
I get my kicks above the waistline, sunshine

One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble
Not much between despair and ecstasy
One night in Bangkok and the tough guys tumble
Can't be too careful with your company
I can feel the devil walking next to me

Siam's gonna be the witness
To the ultimate test of cerebral fitness
This grips me more than would a
Muddy old river or reclining Buddha
And thank God I'm only watching the game -- controlling it --
I don't see you guys rating
The kind of mate I'm contemplating
I'd let you watch, I would invite you
But the queens we use would not excite you
So you better go back to your bars, your temples, your massage parlours --

One night in Bangkok and the world's your oyster
The bars are temples but the pearls ain't free
You'll find a god in every golden cloister
A little flesh, a little history
I can feel an angel sliding up to me

One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble
Not much between despair and ecstasy
One night in Bangkok and the tough guys tumble
Can't be too careful with your company
I can feel the devil walking next to me

One of the few rap songs I actually like.
Ahhhh, the land of smiles. Anyone else notice one of the flight attendant requirements is a full-length recent photo? Try that around here...

I love Thailand.

Does anyone know what the song is actually about?

Hint: It's not a chess tournament.

Chess was a NYC broadway play that had it's run in the mid 80's...I believe the song was part of the soundtrack for the play. The song was in the "top 20" for awhile....the instrumental introduction part if the song is awsome.

Phuket is pronounced fooket. 30 years ago Bangkok or Krungthep, as it is known to Thais, was an exotic, if not a dirty place. Don't know anything about the women-boys deal but I am not surprised. Much of their underground economy seems to be based on hooking in major cities. Some of most beautiful women in the world can be found in Thailand...but maybe there were really women-boys....

If you ever get to Thailand go to Chang Mai. The King's summer palace is there and much less hustle bustle than Krungthep.

I stand corrected! My 30 year old memory may have failed me here. I still do remember "Numba 10, GI!" But maybe that was just dialect.

Poo-ket is correct.

There are a lot of "lady boys" in Bangkok.

One time my crew were sitting, drinking beer in a local bar in Bangkok. A "lady" sat down next to me, and the our engineer yelled out, "That's a guy!"

With a burst of super-human strength from being so mad, I picked the "lady" up and threw her over the bar. I knew that I was certainly going to be thrown out of the bar, so I finished up my beer and started for the door.

That's when the "lady" approached me, stood in front of me, pulled up her top and pulled down her panties and said, "See, I no guy!" She wasn't, that I could clearly see, now.

Don't know anything about the women-boys deal
Suuuuuure you don't, big boy. ;)

Minh Thong
(Not a lady ... or a boy.)
