Gents,
Ms. Sharon Jones w/ Comair called and asked me a few questions about my times and such. At the close she said that she was gathering information and that I would be contacted later. I've done some searching and found others that received a call and were offered interviews. Did I fail the test? I was just wondering. Good luck to all.

I got a call Tuesday from Leanne and got the same round of questions but was offered an interview for April 20th.

To tell you the truth, I don't quite remember. I believe I faxed a cover letter and resume to them in January or early February.

April interviews

That's great news that they are interviewing again. Maybe the next class will be earlier than the July class that was scheduled.

Bad Vibes, I Guess!!

Well, I guess that she must of felt bad vibes about me or something. The only thing negative that I said was that I failed my Private oral over 10 years ago. Yeah, that's it!! Anyhow, good luck on your interview.

I got the same call today. I wasn't offered an interview either. She just said she was gathering info? The only negative thing was one failed checkride for me too. Its crazy if that is why I wasn't offered an interview with them! I sure hope not! I don't care much, I got a class with air whiskey.

**CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** that sucks I cant belive a company wouldn't give an interview cause you failed one checkride 10 yrs ago. Guess I wont be getting hired by Comair.

The thing is, it is an employers market right now. With the large number of applicants, they could be as picky as they want to be. It is just a fact of the times.

If you were looking for a new employee and both applicants were equal in all regards, but one had failed a test before. Who would you choose?????

I'd go with the one who has a better attitude, which I would assume is something you can't find out without interviewing the individual. In addition, I'd look at their backgrounds and how each of them got to where they are today, whether its flight instructing, flying 135, etc, etc. In my opinion, those factors are a lot more important than someone who had a bad day and didn't pass a checkride or two. Ofcourse, if someone has several failed checkrides, that could be a different story.

Exactly!! failing a checkride has little to do with how well a person flies an airplane on top of it attitude carries more weight than if you had a bad day, and everyone has had a bad day. Plus examiners aren't always fair, i've seen(riding backseat) guys pass rides that didn't deserve it simply because they examiner had a relationship with the applicant. There are plenty of tickets out there flying around that are underserving. Also is the same for the oppisite, plenty of pinks out there that aren't deserving. point is the check ride system isn't really a good system, thats why I don't hold much weight in it.

I agree with what you guys are saying but again it is an employers market right now. They can afford to pick and choose as they see fit. If they did not have some kind of standard they would have to absorb the expense of bringing every single applicant in for a personal interview. That could get rather expensive. They have to draw a line somewhere and maybe right now it is at who has failed a check ride or not. A few years ago, if you had a pulse and a few hundred hours you were in. It is not that difficult of a concept to understand.

Anyways, as professional pilots we are not allowed, theoretically, to have a bad day. If we have a bad day in the cockpit, people may die. It is that cut and dry.

I would bet that busting a private ride -- or any ride, other than an ATP, will probably not keep them from giving you an interview. Besides, that info is on your application as well.

Right now, things are slow here, and the pool is in a holding pattern -- with a good number at that. You probably will get a call for an interview in the future -- maybe just not for this next round. You got a call, and I bet that's more than a lot of applicants are getting. I don't think it's a negative thing that you got a call, with or without the interview... yet.

Not counting the academy pool, there isn't very many swimming right now. The last group to interview (Feb) was told the pool was just about dried up..
