Hello to all on this board....thanks for the info thus far, but I do have one question regarding the PHX area.

Here's my situation: I've got the comm/se/me/ir bit all done, and looking to complete the CFI ratings someplace and instruct for a while. So I've ruled out the big academies in town already, and now I'm looking for something better. So my options are either A) Find a good FBO in the area--hopefully not in mesa, I live in the northwest valley....or B) look further into the ATP CFI program, do that, and try to get hired someplace in the valley. And what are the odds of that happening?

If you have any reccomendations for good FBO's either at SDL, PHX or GEU, I'd love to hear 'em.

Yes, I've done a search on ATP and all that already and havn't really found much specific info on the CFI part of the program, which is why I'm asking here....

Thanks in Advance!

dvtpilot,

I did the Pan Am thing. I'm not instructing there. In fact, most of their instructors are leaving in droves right now due to the gestapo-like conditions. So I second your aversion to the academies. I know of a guy who went in to Westwind and stood there for 30 minutes while waiting to be helped before he just gave up and left.

If you're willing to drive a little ways, I'd recommend you come down to my school in Chandler, Tailwind Flight Centre (www.tailwindflight.com). I know that's a little way from DVT (I live at 101 & I-17 and drive to CHD every day), but we've got some great instructors on board, if I do say so myself :pimp:. If you're interested, drop me a PM.

If you don't want to drive that far (completely understandable), you might try Glendale Aviation at GEU. I have a friend over there who I could probably hook you up with. Let me know, and good luck in your search.

Stay away from Westwind, that is the only thing I can tell you.

I'd very highly recommend checking out Falcon Aviation at Falcon Field in Mesa (FFZ). Probably the best flight school in the Valley. Their airplanes aren't exactly the newest, but I guarantee you their probably the best maintained aircraft in the Valley. I did my Commercial training there in their Arrow, and also it was the only place I used for rentals when I lived there. Very knowledgable and friendly instructors, and I heard as a CFI they pay great, and treat you great there as well. Check them out...

Tailwinds at CHD is a nice place to check out, as Schoolio recommended. I almost went to work there as an instructor when they first opened, but fate had other plans in store for me. However, make sure you stay away from Chandler Air Service on the same field.

I got my multi at Arizona Aviation at Falcon field, fairly busy when it cools down.

I am currently training for a cargo job at PHX. I can't imagine a flight school on the field as it is a nightmare to get in and out of the field. In the last week I have had to hold(VFR) for over an hour to land.
