I'm about to leave the Army, after almost 9 years and just under 2,000 flight hours, it's time to move on. I wanted to see if anyone had any information about flying EMS for PHI, especially in Houston. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I worked for PHI after leaving the Army in 98. At that time they hired for the EMS openings from the Gulf. They wanted 1 year in the gulf before a move to the EMS side of the house. They would hire straight into EMS for some of the less desireable locations that the guys in the gulf would not bid on.

I see you have TH-67 time. Most guys fail the flight check when they get in the BH206 because they have too much time in the '60's or 47, and can't hover the 206. You actually have to fly the 206.

I know that most operators want previous EMS time or at least a year in the Gulf before considering you for an EMS job. There is one on www.climbto350.com in Sweetwater, TX that they are having a hard time filling.

I've flown EMS between airlines. It's not for the faint of heart. You've got to be able to say NO because of the "got to rescue" mentality of some of the flight nurses will try to make you go when you know the weather is too crappy. Search for a post of mine on aptap for a story about this.
