Anyone been? Should I stay in Perth (CBD), Fremantle, or split my nights between the two?

Also, any and all info on bars, pubs, clubs (wherever the local hotties go) would be appreciated, as well as any other general suggestions.

I've spent a lot of time in Perth on port calls. Great place. Go to Freemantle to drink and party but stay in Perth. The Burswood is a huge casino with nice rooms. Downtown Perth has plenty of places to stay. Always action during the week at the Hippie Bar. Go to the Ocean Beach Hotel (on Cottesloe Beach) on sunday afternoon. Get there early to get a table. Lots of hotties roll in there. If you have time, drive down to Margaret River (about 3hrs south) of Perth. Great surf community, wineries, etc. Take a day trip out to Rottnest island off Perth, worth seeing. Drink local beer, all excellent. Other bars: Steve's (near Univ of WA) on thurs nights. Find the Brass Monkey downtown. Great bar and tons of other bars in the immediate vicinity. If it's Aussie Rules football season, go see the Freemantle Dockers or the Perth Eagles. These games rival out NFL games for intensity and fan craziness. Don't let anyone get you to try Vegemite, it's disgusting. Great running trails along the Swan River. Have fun, drink tons.

Perth is ok, been growing like crazy over the last few years but it's still no Sydney. Like a previous poster said try to get down to Margaret River, where the surf is fantastic. Also worth checking out is the Pinnacle Desert, truely amazing place if you catch it at sunset.

BTW Vegemite beats Marmite hands down, but both pale in comparison to Bovril.

Bovril! *laugh* Now there's something I haven't had in a long time!

Absolutely the best, hands down, most interesting, best kept, nicest, affordable golf course I have ever played. Havn't been there in 10 years, but they are still Australia's Number one resort for the last few years and it is just a few minutes out of town, reachable by a train ride as well. This place is amazing, golfing in an old quarry just a couple of miles off the coast with kangaroo's every where, big ones at that. They had 27 holes last time I was there, and if you even like golf, an absolute must play.

Perth is my favorite city down under, it's like San Diego in Australia, I jealous just thinking about it.
Ciao!
