I just talked to a friend of mine and he said Penn Airways will be hiring shortly. They have had a couple pilots leave some due to being called to active duty and others forced.:D Anyways they are code share with Alaskan and and operate under 135 and 121. He said they will probably have a couple slots for commercial pilots flying right seat in the Caravan at 200 hrs until you can build up some time. Expect gravel runways and flying and staying in the bush for about 2 weeks on and then coming back to civilization for 2 weeks. Contact Bryan Carricaburu at the corporate office 907-243-2485.

It's actually PenAir with one " n ", that is short for Peninsula Airways. Try www.penair.com for info on the company. A friend of mine worked there in the mid 90s. He started out in the right seat of a San Antonio Sewer Pipe in Anchorage and " upgraded " to Captain on a Cherokee Six out of King Salmon. Believe it or not the Cherokee Six pay was better than right seat in the Metro. I went up there and hung out with him one week. It was pretty fun flying around never getting above 500 feet; landing on dirt, gravel, beaches, and getting "jumped" by the Caravan every now and again.


He said it was pretty nasty weather in the winter when they flew the Metro down the Aleutian chain and they worked pretty hard in the summer during the peak of the Salmon season. I think he said they averaged around 25 landings per day in the Cherokee Six when it was busy. Lots of short hops, some airports only across the river from one another.

Since the operation does not require more than one pilot, nor does it require an ATP certificate, nor did the PIC manipulate the flight controls; the PIC logs no flight time. This is because the PIC did not meet any of the time-logging requirements of FAR 61.51.

That's it!!!!! When I was up there it was more like 4 landings an hour X 10 hours a day. (Dont get too excited, our "hourly" service was only .7 hobbs due to all the stops.) The most landings I did in a day there was 56.

Are you serious? 56 landings in one day?? I see HA's planes running alot in the summer, but didn't think you could do that many and still be able to fly!

Looks like your no longer with them? Did you no like the awesome flying around that area?
 
I suppose I should of clarified that I didn't work for Penair, but another 135 outfit.

A typical one hour leg would be 16NM-7NM-2NM-8NM-16NM (distance between fields). So after flying 10 hourly trips (10 X 0.7 = 7.0 hours and 50 takeoffs and landings)

I don't have it up right now, but I think it was 5200 cycles for me in one year.

anjinoo, with interpretations like that who needs the FAA to figure it out.

if you don't mind I'll continue to follow the regs and not the incorrect babble you use to justify your flight time.
