"ASA On Top" program is pretty good for nuts and bolts IFR flying. Great for keeping current. Very easy to set up weather, position, and aircraft criteria. No real terrain graphics though, as it is intended to be an instrument program.
I just got to sample the new MSFS X. Unless you have a real good computer in terms of memory and video card, you won't get the graphics that were designed into it. It is a resource hog otherwise, but the graphics are pretty incredible. Excellent for those wishing to do VFR flying on their sim. Very realistic graphics, but you'll have to set the parameters on high and unless you've a good CPU, expect very slow frame refresh rates.
