Second career guy here, and estimate over last 7 yrs:

2003: CFI- $13-15K
2004: 135 PIC (C402/404/Aztec and Baron) $25K
2005: CRJ FO $25K
2006: Frac FO $30K
2007: Frac PIC $60K (some OT)
2008: Frac PIC $72K (some OT/Stds Cap raise)
2009: Frac PIC $80-ishK

Timing has been everything, and a lot of luck being in the right place at the right time! When Comair went into bankruptcy along with Delta in 2005, it discouraged me enough to quit, and I'm pretty happy with my decision!

Good luck, happy holidays

I know that's a tough question!!! Simply to many factors to deal with. Check out http://www.airlinepilotcentral.com/ and you can sway the numbers any way you want.
I know guys making $130K+ in their 7th year at a fractional. I also know guys making around $65K at a large regional as a captain. It's all about timing!!

Years 1-7...$20? Thanks anyway.

After taxes and flight school loans, this is probably about right.

Assumes slow progression at the regionals due to lack of growth and the impending need to earn (or god forbid, buy) an ATP in 91/135 before going 121.

The future will be different due to slow progression at the regionals...this will probably increase competition for lower-level 91 and 135 jobs.

For an average of the entire industry I would have to imagine it would be heavily influenced by the regional carriers since that is where the majority of entry level pilot jobs have been in the past 7 years. Sure there are some who went the corp, frac, cargo, overseas flying but the majority spend it at the regionals.

The past 7years I would say avg is $50k. The next 7 years? No freakin clue.

My personal experience:

2003 - $20K (CFI to 121 FO)
2004 - $25K (121 FO to 121 Turboprop Captain)
2005 - $32K (121 Turboprop Captain)
2006 - $50K (121 Turboprop Captain to 121 RJ Captain)
2007 - $55K (121 RJ Captain to Widebody Cargo FO)
2008 - $45K (Widebody Cargo FO to CFI during a furlough to Corporate Pilot)
2009 - $104K + bonus, expecting to be at $110K (Corporate Chief Pilot)

Cheers!
