An elderly man on an American Airlines flight was restrained by passengers, including television's "Dr. 90210," after he got out of his seat and shoved a flight attendant late Monday, officials said.
The jetliner landed safely in Los Angeles and police took the 80-year-old man, who did not speak English, to a hospital for a 72-hour mental observation, airport spokeswoman Nancy Castles said.
"He evidently started to panic about 15 minutes before landing, when everyone is supposed to be buckled into seats," Castles said.
None of the five crew members or 122 passengers aboard the MD-80 plane from Austin, Texas, reported injuries, American Airlines spokesman Billy Sanez said.
The man hopped out of his seat in coach and marched into first class, Sanez said.
Dr. Robert Rey, a plastic surgeon who practices martial arts, told The Associated Press he got out of his seat and intervened when he heard the man make a "big noise" as he pushed a female flight attendant toward the cockpit.
"When you get a black belt, at that stage your brain just clicks into action," the doctor said. "I restrained this gentleman in a very aggressive way without hurting him."
Another passenger helped as the man kicked and screamed, Rey said. The doctor said he also checked the man's vital signs and determined he was not having a medical emergency.
The flight attendant "was shook up but not hurt," Rey said.
Flight crew members described the man as "very frail," Sanez said. He had been scheduled to board a connecting flight in Singapore after landing in Los Angeles.
Rey, who stars on the E! Network reality show "Dr. 90210" about a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, was returning home after taping a segment for "The Insider."
Rey also appears as himself on a Carl's Jr. commercial in which he advises a chicken to undergo breast augmentation surgery.

That's awesome, it took a Beverly Hills doctor with a black belt acting in a "very aggressive way" to restrain an elderly man described as "very frail". Good work doc!

In other words, I kicked his walker out from under him and he fell to the floor.

Why can't a tall blonde with huge torpedos get out of line on one of my flights.... Sigh.....

That doctor is probably going to eat those words in court later. Cheesus Crust, they got the 5th amendment, why don't people just shut the hell up when they do something like this.

They don't have to say a word to nobody when something like this is over with, why tie your own noose?

C'mon now, a "famous" Dr. is going to keep his mouth shut and miss a chance to make national news.....

OK, I am just wondering why the big Doc had to take a commercial flight anyway...he stars in a show on E! and is a "prominent" boob doctor in beverly hills. Charter?? humm...

Have you ever seen this nimrod? Lots of hair gel, cufflinks, etc... He wears suits that look like "night at the Roxy" probably $4000 apiece though. What a Goombah!!

I get a kick out of guys who say "my hands are registered as deadly weapons/my instinct took over/you think......you die!"

But have you seen his work, I mean, come on! Give the man some RESPECT!

C'mon...haven't you watched the show??? His wife, who doesn't do jack $hit, talked him into buying a 5 million dollar 8000 square foot home. She said they needed more room so they are not "on top of eachother" and they needed to move so he can "spend more time relaxing with the family". He said he was going to have to work double to make the mortgage payment. All he probably can afford now is a $80 airline ticket if he has to travel.

And if the flight attendant was sufficiently frightened, he can come to his/her assistance with another money making part of his practice:

"Anal bleaching made its public debut on an episode of Dr. 90210 on E! when featured porn star Tabitha Stevens visited a salon in the San Fernando Valley to get hers bleached."

So, after he kicks the old man's ass, he can clean it up like brand spankin' new.
