Has anyone here worked a second part-time flying job while flying for a regional airline or corporate department?

Any problems juggling the two flying jobs?

Working for myself

For about a year now, I have worked "for myself" ... as a contract pilot and flight instructor. Early in the year, I was a full-time flight instructor and for most of the year I've had a full-time position as a corporate pilot.

As a contractor, I work for myself ... I set my own hours, take only the trips I want, and fly only the airplanes I want. I happen to have a bit of a niche teaching type-specific initial training in Bonanzas, but I also do some contract work in Barons and Cessna 310s.

There isn't really a whole lot of juggling ... my full-time job pays the bills and obviously comes first. However, when I have time off from it, I do what I can to pick up some contract work. It's not for everybody, but it has proven to be a fairly decent way for me to supplement my logbook (and my wallet) in my spare time.

Good luck!

Annual commercial flying limits

I would just caution that if you fly for a commercial operator you better limit your part-time flying. I am sure the regs say you can fly only 1000 hours a year for pay. I've heard of people who hit that before a year is out and time out for their regular job.

Having said that, I know of people who instruct during their off-hours. They set their own schedules, make a few bucks, and actually enjoy a busman's holiday flying light aircraft.

I belive most Regionals will not allow you to take a 2'd job flying because of the 1000 hrs/year limit.

wrong

At the regional I work at, you can get a 2nd job. But you need to get approval first. And you have to be careful with flight time limitations.
