Part 121 Reg question

Just being nit-picky but if you read the reg it really says that you ALWAYS need an alternate...unless...

1. you can meet the 1.2.3 rule

AND

2. There is an instrument approach to that airport.

Lots of people forget #2 and it does occassionally come up depending where you are flying.

My -121 airline is different (Ops Specs).

We ALWAYS need an alternate, regardless of the weather.

We have one, and only one, alternate. There is no -3585 exemption (this is for when the alternate is below alt mins. Then you can have 2 alternates, and the weather at the alts can be below standard alt mins).

Cliff....your supplemental 121 like i am, so the alternate is always required. I never flew domestic or flag so i didnt really pay attention or care that they had different alternate rules until i started looking for a job.

Partially correct, for your first alternate can be under the C55 computed alternate minimums. However, your 2nd alternate must be at/above C55 alternate minima.
Dont think that both alternates can be below C55, doesnt work that way.
